I'm moving(this week) across the street from where I live now,my internet service providers can't come out until Wednesday,so I wanted to take my laptop to the new apartment and leave the internet service I have now connected (here in the old house)until Wednesday,I have a Linskys router.Maybe if he moves the PC and router to the front room(where we live now)and I take the front bedroom directly across the street from that, will it work?my husband says the signal will reach I think not is that true?

When I was stationed in Korea I lived across the street from the library and always stole there signal. It depends on the equipment they are using.

Another thing you can look into is they have signal boosters for wireless routers to extend the signal.

The average distance is 300 feet, but up to a 1000 is easily possible in the right conditions. Testing is the only way to know. (Some wireless connections are even designed for 1000 feet.)
The lower the signal the slower the speed because of error checking when the signal is bad.
Be sure your wireless connection is secured with scrambling because with the proper antenna people CAN receive your signal from miles away.
Right here in the computer room, I can receive signals from 2 other neighbors and they are more than 500 feet away. (I have instructed them on how to secure there wireless connection.)

It depends on how many feet it is that the signal will have to travel. Is it a 802.11g router and card? Also it will depend on the amount of interference. Walls will deteriorate the signal so put it close to a window. Overall, it should work. It may be slow but it should work.
