Two hours top i would think, aleast you showed up and be bothered to make an effort to be involved. Make sure your excuse is geniune-like and apologise for not sticking around any longer and maybe suggest another meeting soon that would be shorter and easier to cope next time. This way you showed you cared and not being rude to avoid them.
You might even enjoy the party and stay longer than you expected!! There will be other mothers who probably dread the prospect of a kid party too!!

You need to be a bit more descriptive. I'm assuming you're bringing your child? If so, how old is your child? If your child is at least five years old, and feels comfortable around the other kids and adults, you could probably leave for a while and come back later to pick him/her up.
If you have no children and are just invited as a guest. You could cut out early. Clearly it's a kids party and you're invited as a nice gesture. Just your showing up is nice :)

four hours??? blimey how old are the kids? as apparently i read somewhere that and hour and half should be the maximum amount of time to stop boredom....
you should stay for however long YOU want to, at my kids party, the parents and kids turned up and left all at diff times, one parent stayed five mins....
stay for the length of time you want, but it depends on what is going on as your kid may want to stay longer, so in that case, come up with an excuse beforehand, like you need to visit granny or something
have fun!

that depends on how close you are to the kids and their parents.. if you're really bored and u dont know the kids too well, you can stay for 1:30 - 2:00.. just make sure you've prepared a good excuse in case you wanna slip out quickly

Why can't you just drop off your 'kid?' When my children were young and had parties, I used to make sure that it was okay for the parents to leave their children and come and collect them later! Lousy party organiser - I don't think that I'd bother going at all!

You poor thing!!!!!!!!
I hated kids parties, I always gave my kids the choice of party or bigger present, mercenary little gems always chose the present. i would never stay at any other kids parties, always had an excuse to leave or not to attend!

If you get into the spirit of it, you probably won't want to leave early. I suggest a good old fashioned game of musical chairs - or pass the parcel-or pin the tail on the donkey (very politely)........
