Unfortunately its not Latin, the word comes from the ancient Greek language where politics was first thought of by Plato and Aristotle.

The word Politic derives from Greek word politikos, from polites meaning "citizen," from polis meaning "city."

From there we get the word politics. As it has generally become used in a plural form through bad habits even when referring to a singular politic.

It would be if it was true. Politics comes from the Grek 'poli' meaning town and 'technos' meaning skill. So it sort of means how to run a state.

I'm more worried about 'poll'itics. That's government by polls, sometimes called Bubba's syndrome.

It's a disease. It causes you to point in whichever way the polls are blowing. It's highly contagious, especially to a spouse.

The root is "polis", a city, not "poly". Thus "politics" "of the city"
