Speaking as a non-American who doesn't carry any Republican / Democrat baggage, for me it's Jimmy Carter. Have you, on the whole, rehabilitated yourself with Bill Clinton (I can't assume that you ever had a problem with him, of course)?

The entire point of this question is to DISREGARD the President's term in office. What I'm digging for is the extent to which a US President can salvage grace AFTER he leaves office (hence the Clinton reference.)

JFK????!!

He died in office, so 'What I Did After My Presidency - By John Fitzgerald Kennedy' is a book which, by definition, would have to be ghost-written.

Hmmmm...so far, it seems that most ex-Presidents tend to be 'fixed forever' with their perceived success or failure while in office, and this enhances / clouds perceptions of them forever. Which isn't wrong, in a way.

Carter obviously.

Bush Sr. and Clinton established a fund for victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Ford played golf.

Reagan was stricken with Alzheimer's and was really in no shape to do much.

Nixon could have made a significant contribution, I think, but we had to crucify him.

Carter was among the first to encourage and extend a welcoming hand to Nixon by the way.

Of the "post" presidents, Carter was the first to criticize a sitting president, Clinton was the second. All previous ones kept their mouths shut. Carter is treasonous and Clinton is still an embarrassment because of his perversion. Richard Nixon was the only one after office to 'try' to do something positive with his travels and expertise.

Reagan....so, you respect the man that did nothing against terrorism, exxcept bomb an aspirin factory, and the man that did nothing for the country at all....except allow Iran capture our embassy group, and send in a force that died in the Iranian desert? Jimmy Carter had the most potential, but turned out to be maybe the worst president, due to luck partially, than any president in my dads lifetime......
