Many countries still have conscripted armies.

Greece, Turkey, Russia, South Korea, North Korea, China, are a few that come to mind right off. I would guess at Croatia, Slovenia, Ukraine (and any other of the former Soviet Republics) and many of the Middle-Eastern countries: Iran, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Syria... (Iraq until 2003)

Not all countries enjoy an all volunteer army like the US does. Also, the political turmoil in much of the world makes a mandatory service a necessity for the security of the country.

You mean like a draft? Less and less nowadays, since most rely on a more compact highly specialized professional army. I don't think there is much of it left in Western Europe.

i just know one and that's my country! the Philippines! in case the government declared or in need of huge army, we the civilians specially the men age 13 and up are force to serve whether we like it or not. that's why we have C.A.T. ,R.O.TC., and C.W.T.S. in all school (public and private)(senior high and college). men and women are train to be a good and skillful soldier. and it is really fun! now, they teach us on how to carry and fire a m14 and m16 armalite,.. on a firing range of course! and we always play paintball fight,. and we need to learn the sparring,karate,taekwando etc,..
