I was going outside and saw a cicada fly and land on my porch chair. I picked it up and tossed it into the living room for Bootsie to catch and play with.It made it's buzz/humming noise every time Bootsie touched it. Bootsie liked picking it up in her mouth because it tickled her with the vibration!.She carried it to the door and then back to the floor by my chair several times like she was showing me her big kill for the day! Then she would lay down and gently paw at it and play. She did this for hours.

No way! I love watching my cats play. Most of the time they never kill the thing they're playing with either, so I don't feel bad for the critter. My kitten Cheshire got hold of a hawk moth that was almost as big as her head. It looked like her head had wings. She just walked around with it a while letting it beat her cheeks with it's wings, then let it go. It flew off, and she just watched it go.

Cats do the same naturally when outdoors or in the wild. It's the "feral" in them. We had a cat that chased after squirrels - including racing up the tree and across the branches - because she thought it was the greatest game in the world. Kept her occupied for a few hours. *Sigh* She got stuck up at the very top and guess who had to retrieve her! Haha!

no, not if you're the cicada. but don't worry about that. Just be happy for your cat. Cats will play with almost anything anyways.
