Hmm, I once asked an Institute teacher about this because it also troubled me. However, since it has been 19 years I do not remember the name of the Institute teacher. This was his opinion, and then after that I will tell you mine. It was his opinion that Mary was still the eternal companion of Joseph and married to him, even though the first child was God's. We do not have enough information to say how Jesus Christ was conceived. I see someone is dragging out old Journal of Discourses links even though they are dated material and not official LDS scripture. I would like to point out that even Brigham Young did not have information on for example, the concept of artificial insemination, which seems common knowledge to us today living in a very technological age. That kind of operation would have been considered a miracle in any other historic era - but it would not have been outside the range of God's power. Even though I think highly of Brigham Young as a prophet, he had to retract his opinion more than once on some subjects. One of those was in regards to a comment made about the Jewish people joining the Church in the 19th century - that they would not remain in the Church. One very prominent convert with Jewish roots, Alexander Neibaur, was overlooked in Brigham Young's comments until it was pointed out to Brigham Young that he should not make sweeping generalizations. You have to understand prophets in context of their day and age as well. So this Institute teacher said it was his opinion that there was possibly a temporary marriage-type ceremony of some kind so that it would be legal for Mary to conceive the Son of God, but that it was no longer necessary for that status to continue afterwards. In my opinion, I believe the scriptures when they say it was a "virgin" who gave birth - and that Joseph was commanded to "know her not" until after the birth of Jesus. That suggests to me that the entire process of conception and pregnancy did not involve physical intercourse with any male - so there was no adultery involved. Again, it is my strong opinion that Mary and Joseph were eternal companions and their marriage covenant is still in force today. Hope this helps you out. If you want to know more I can refer you to W. Cleon Skousen's commentaries or anything by any Apostle in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

What the LDS faith teaches regarding this is a perversion of truth. They believe that God did have sexual relations with Mary, unlike what the Bible, his word, states. In Matthew 1:18 and 1:20 it clearly states that the conception was through the Holy Spirit.
A great example of this perversion comes from the Journal of Discourses which contains sermons by Brigham Young. "While brother Joseph was referring to the providences of God, I was led to reflect that there is no act, no principle, no power belonging to the Deity that is not purely philosophical. The birth of the Saviour was as natural as are the births of our children; it was the result of natural action. He partook of flesh and blood-was begotten of his Father, as we were of our fathers." & "When the Virgin Mary conceived the child Jesus, theFather had begotten him in his own likeness. He was not begotten by theHoly Ghost."
According to these quotes the Father had an incestuous relationship with Mary, as we are all children of God. These perversions of Biblical doctrine run rampant within their faith and doctrine taught by the LDS church.

i hit upon it unusual that a church who proclaims itself the voice for God to the earth could be so wishy washy approximately center doctrines. needless to say LDS leaders have taught that the delivery of Jesus got here approximately while an exalted guy had intimate family with Mary. to disguise at the back of the actual incontrovertible fact that it is not respected doctrine isn't something better than spineless adult males hiding at the back of oratorical loopholes. LDS leaders: get a backbone. Refute former teachings in this or declare what you have self assurance. yet please end laying this lame PR interest the place you could declare something yet take no accountability by ability of claiming it is not respected doctrine once you're challenged on it.

All Mormons are confused, the LDS, the RLDS. They are believing a lie. They are so confused they can't even see it. I have CLEARLY pointed it out though. Look at this page and scroll down to the section on Mormons...

Marriage is holy, and Adultery implies that God had sex with Mary, which we do not believe. We believe in immaculate conception, (i.e. that God made Mary pregnant with Jesus, without the act of sex).

All I know is that God's ways are not our ways. I'm sure that however it happened, that it happened in a holy and pure way.
