I don't need any rude or nasty remarks, just curious. I mean if you don't believe in God, then why go on a site where you know that there will be people talking about God? Are you trying to convert people? Do you like it when Christians try to convert you? Or maybe you are really just curious about God and that is why you are here? Anyways you are all welcome here, God loves you anyhow.

it doesn't matter how politely this question is asked, they still freak out when they see it...yes, religion and spirituality is not just for Christians, as has been pointed out ad nauseum, but no one has pointed out the LOGIC of people who don't believe in God in ANY way, shape, or form to be hanging out in a 'religion and spirituality' site...and even when you acknowledge they have the right to be here, they choose to ignore that and whine that you're denying them the right to be here-i think they just look for any possible opportunity to be offended. i believe that, for a lot of them, atheism IS their religion and this is their only venue, outside of the courts, to be 'missionaries for nothing'...otherwise they would be reduced to going door to door and ringing doorbells for no apparent reason...

You're on an open forum, and you're questions appear on the front page...making them available to any and everyone.

I've used this answer EVERY time this gets asked and I catch it...I offer factual, and knowledgeable answers. These answers can be verified and validated by doing some research of your own. I'm not trying to convert anyone, but if anything that I put forth opens your eyes even a little (even if its only to question and thereby strengthen your faith), then isn't it worth it. Not everyone is going to respond with bile and insults, and if you don't want to read that, use the scroll bar on the side of the screen and move along past those answers.

I come here for many reasons. I have a religion. It isn't Christian but it is still a religion. Are you to say that only Christians should be allowed to be in the religion section? If so then they would have called it the Christian and Spirituality section. I also come here to talk about the different religions. I study religion to see what they are all about. When I teach my kids religion I don't just teach my religion to them. I teach them about different ones so that when they are old enough, they will be able to make an informed decision about what religion, or non religion, they would like to be. I don't just assume that my kids will follow my religion. They will be exposed to it more than any other religion but that doesn't mean they have to follow it.

Atheists are a sub-set of humanity, and therefore have many different reasons for sharing their own view.

Some see it as a duty to enlighten those they perceive to be labouring under a misapprehension.

Some see it as a joke and will laugh at those who do not see the humour in religion and belief.

Others have an agenda they need to push onto others.

I fall into the latter category. I perceive any organised belief system which puts a man on his knees before another man as inherently evil and therefore something to be stopped.

For spirituality section - you probably come to religion section.

Any way atheism is also a belief of non existence of God - they have their values in life that they might wanna discuss and answer some stupid questions posed by Christians and Islamists.... They also can come and have some fun at the expense of religious people !

Many reasons ya ?

Maybe on a certain level, an atheist or agnostic doubts his or her own lack of belief. The very existence of the universe and its ingenious design, balance and beauty provide a logical argument for the existence of God. Beyond that, if you believe that you are made in God's image, there must be a recognition of the Creator on some level in every one of us, whether we acknowledge it or not. Discomfort with a claimed absence of beliefs or the belief in the absence of a Creator may prompt some to come to this bulletin board. Maybe you can help them see the light. It's not like they are going to shake your faith. Maybe you can shake their absence of faith. Or at least start them on the right path.

Because believe it or not, people can be spiritual without being a christian or believing in your god. Some people also come here to have their point of view heard. This isn't a place for god believers only.

To find out what that need to know without being seen in religious circles. Everybody needs solace. Atheists will need it all the more. After the attitude talk they I am sure will be mortally scared of Hell and God. Checking out Redemption in Private.

Religious folks have the unmitigated gall to think their narrow-minded view is right despite overwhelming evidence they are wrong ...

and .. loveydovey ... sweety ... you now have the audacity to question the rights of atheists to explain WHY you are wrong?

this is an open forum, we get equal speech.

Atheists can prove what they teach (most of the time) or they soon change to what can be proved.
If the religious had to meet minimal standards of proof then they would have to revise all the religions.

Because, it would be boring if everyone agreed on everything. Religious people agree on almost everything within their faith.
Might as well go to church; no point in asking questions you know the answer to and to have a bunch of people nod their head.

Atheists disagree about all kinds of stuff, even among themselves. Atheists like to talk about atheism and no where else really fits.
