My 2 different Doc's says everyone needs Colonscopy after age 50. i'm in mid 50's. i had fissures OR was told so-by a Dr. 20 yrs ago. (Not seen any bleeding in many yrs. (I was constipated one AM - then at 7pm that evening---started passing blood; felt like diarhea--THEN --but would only be blood & it was every 2 or 3 hrs - yet felt like diarrhea every incident; THE BLEEDING COMPLETLY STOPPED EARLY NEXT MORN. ---then I had big stool that looked real dark --like it could have been dark DRIED ? BLOOD BUT I NOT SURE. - J--ONLY ONE OCCASION of constipation since then - nearly 3 weeks. I want to back out of having Colonscopy, but then what if the bleeding re-curs---then i'm afraid the Specialist would not SEE me again ? Can't i have my stools checked for occult blood (blood in stools) WITHOUT HAVING a Colonscopy.---since i've not seen any more blood in bout 3 wks-COMMENTS?

Honey, have the colonoscopy. I understand not wanted to, believe me! But with the symptoms you have had, it is best to be safe. If it turns out to be something serious, the faster it is found and treated, the better the prognosis. And if it is nothing serious, then just be thankful.

Blessings to you.

I am also in my mid 50's and have an appt. for a colonoscopy next week. I have had lots bleeding also. It has made me weak and my stomach feels tender and full or pushed outward, it is a weird feeling. I have had the short and long scopes before and it didn't hurt, just embarrassing! I didn't have any meds either. After one the dr. said it was internal hemorrhoids and that sometimes when you have a harder stool it can make them bleed. He had me to rest a few days so they could heal well.I didn't have the hard stool this time, just softer and more times and it felt like I was on fire when I went. I also got like a diaper rash/burn from the first movement and hurt like crazy. That had never happened before.Someone told me that a virus is going around that makes you bleed from the anus. I don't know about that!? You need to have the scope anyway at your age so get it and know exactly what you are dealing with and if there are other problems that need addressing. Best wishes and I hope we both get much better!

yesterday i had the same problem of passing out blood and clots with diarrhoea i went to the ER and the doc check and say that i have piles in my anus. but i think it is good to have a colonscopy done since ur doc think u need 1. u can ask to be put to sleep before the scope then u wont feel anything i had a upper Gl scope done when i was 20 yrs old i was a sleep so i dun feel anything. it is better to get it check and if theres anything there it is better to cure it early rather than waiting for it to get more serious.

good luck and take care don't worry too much

you need to get it done.... could be a multitude of things going on... is it the money issue? or are you just nervous about the procedure?
if its money issues than call his office and explain... ask if you can give a stool sample instead...
you'll have to have it done eventually.... better to know early than late for cancer possibilities, right?
i know someone that had the procedure... he says its not as bad as it seems it would be... he felt a little uncomfortable, he said it wasnt painful, just gave him a slight feeling like he needed to "go" ....
still.... do you wanna risk not paying attention to a possible warning sign ?

all i can say is if there is something majorly wrong, its the only way to catch it early, if not in the long term things could get worse
i'd say go through with it start with a fighting chance
