In order to actually officially copyright anything, you can do two things.
One is to register it with the US Copyright Office. The second is to send yourself a copy certified, and never open the envelope. Then it is officially copyrighted and you can mark the photograph.
I believe that is what you are actually trying to do..... apply the marking on the photograph. I cannot tell you how to do that, but it is not officially copyrighted just because you put the marking on it.

por is correct about the legalities of copyright.
As far as watermarking your photos, which is what I think you mean in your question, PopPhoto had a good article about that. Here's the link:
http://www.popphoto.com/howto/2488/cheat-sheet-copyright-ready.html
I imagine you don't want to spend the bucks on photoshop, but maybe reading the article will help you figure out how to do it in iPhoto. It's also possible you could adapt the techniques to the GIMP, a free open-source program with many of the same capabilities as Photoshop. You'll need X11 installed on your Mac to run the GIMP. It's on your install disk if you haven't already installed it.

actually, when you made something, you already have the copyright of that item, be it digital, painting, drawing, sketching n stuff. sending the items to apply for copyright only reinforce your right to the products.
u can use some image editing software such as Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Photoshop Elements (fr simpler usage).

You could use adobe Photoshop. If you don't have it, try going to www.download.com and try the free trial (they should have it). Just edit in the copyright symbol, save it as jpg, and your done! Hope that helps

try this site, it'll allow you to put a copyright on your webpage so everyone know that your work is copyrighted. (Click on the "Publish" image)
http://creativecommons.org/
Ater you do that, you should also put a watermark on your images to identify them as your work. This is optional, but it'll come in handy if someone tries to steal your work.
