My cat keeps killing the scorpions in our apartments, which we have at least one everyday. They are bark scorpions which are supposed to be highly venomous. But my cat doesn't seem to mind. she plays with them, severs the tail/stinger and then kills them. She doesn't seem effected but I'm curious as to why.

in this part of the desert of arizona, every house is infested with scorpions. They're like ants here. you can spray and spray, but they don't go away. scorpions are the baddassest creatures around, which is why it is even more amazing that my cat takes them out so easily.

Just be glad she is good at it and is entertained by it. My cat brings home rattle snakes alive so I can watch the kill there. I must say it is just a little never wracking! She is very good at this also.and is quit proud of herself. I just thank her and hope she does not do it again.

The venom is in the tail. Once their stinger is disabled, so is the venom usually. One of our cats (long time ago when I was knee-high) caught a black scorpion, stinger was still in its tail, but somehow the cat had stunned it. My mother had never seen anything as spectacular and "pickled" it for posterity. It was the talk of the town for sure - a domesticated cat caught a black scorpion! The distorted image of that scorpion haunted me for years afterwards, like some ugly alien monster! LOL I don't think cats are immune to the venom, just naturally know how to disable them. Cats "dance" in the wild when confronted with scorpions and other venomous creatures, especially when protecting their young. With domesticated cats, their feral nature takes over.

I'm curious as to why you're living in a house with venomous scorpions. Shouldn't you be looking to get into another place b/c if not then isn't your life at risk??
