No it doesn't. It is a fact. I live in the city so I don't even see sheep (unless I'm eating one!) I think it only comes to mind for those who have limited knowledge of the country. Anyone who has been here knows that there is a whole lot more going on than just sheep. We have fantastic restaurants and world famous wineries. Queenstown is the 'adventure capital of the world' and the scenery is stunning. I actually imagine that Lord of the Rings comes to more people's minds these days than sheep when they think of NZ.

I am not a person from New Zealand, but all I have heard about New Zealand is the wonderful waters you have off your coasts, how beautiful it is, and the abundance of flora and fauna both on and off the land. In fact, until you asked this question, I was unaware you were known for sheep. You have a beautiful country and I am glad you are proud of it. More power to ya!!

I am a proud New Zealander. So, in our small green country, there are more sheep than people. So what? We are a rural country with lots of space, unlike other parts of the world that are crowded with people.

Check out the website below to learn what else, other than sheep, there is here.

Its kinda funny when people say this. It is a fact of course, but we Kiwi's dont mind. Is it not the same thing for all countries? Stereotypes that is!
When i lived in the US I got more of the Lord of the Rings hype thrown at me- funny thing was most didnt actually know where NZ was. hehe
So we have lots of sheep- no big deal.
:-)

Kiwis probably feel the same way that Monglians do when people always refer to there being more horses in Mongolia than there are people. That's right. 17 horses for every Mongolian. Crazy huh. But this is the characteristic of a country where nature is valued.

I'm from NZ and there are more sheep than people so I guess we can't really get upset about it. Keep in mind however that there arn't really that many people either. I'm not to fond of people calling us 'sheep shaggers' tho, only because thats not true, that title belongs to the Australians.

Only kidding Australians...come on you would of done the same lol.

No, not really, but it's Australians that like to say that mostly and the funny thing is they are not aware Australia has 240 million sheep to NZ's 70 mil.
