For standard shipping, Amazon recommends Media Mail for books. But since it's my first time preparing a package, I'm wondering how I'm supposed to go about this. I've looked through the USPS site, but came up with practically nothing but a headache.

I do it all the time when I sell my textbooks-I use Amazon as well. Just use a paper grocery bag, wrap the book, and make sure to seal it tightly with tape. I've never had a problem once. Then just go to your post office, they will weigh it, and that's it. It's usually 2-3 bucks to mail.

Brown paper wrappers work. They sell it on a roll in Wal-Mart. You can put it in a regular box, or envelope too. You HAVE to write Media Mail on it. That's all. :-)
