First question: Did anyone know that the ultrasound does measurements based on 10 months..so it's going to add 2 wks to the baby's actual age? That's what I was told by the nurse. Was anyone told different?
Second question: Has anyone ever had wrong ultrasound dates? As far as the baby's measurements. Reason I ask is, I thought I conceived Jan 20th..but the date came out to Dec 22 and it said +/- 6, is that possible...or did I get pregnant sooner since it said it only had a 6 day window?

Did you know that ultrasounds can damage an unborn child?

They add two weeks because of the way our cycles work. We aren't fertile (most of the time) while we are on our period. They have to account for ovulation. The average time of ovulation is the fourteenth day of an average length (twenty-eight day) menstrual cycle. During the luteal (post-ovulatory) phase, the egg will travel through the fallopian tubes toward the uterus, implanting there 6-12 days later if fertilized, or degrading in the fallopian tubes within 24 hours if not fertilized. So they ask you for the date of your last period, but that's just really a starting point to guess your due date. It's not an exact science. It all depends on when the egg is fertilized and implants. I am positive of when I conceived and my due date was a few weeks off too....

I had the same problem with my ultrasound. I had my first at 6 weeks gestation and was told that delivery would be on New Years Day 2007. Then my doctor did his own calculations based on my menstrual cycle....and the delivery date was December 13. THEN i had my last ultrasound nearly 2 weeks ago and they said the 27th of December. Its friggin confusing but always add 2 weeks to the actual conception date.

I finally calculated myself that i am now 19 weeks pregnant with the delivery date on December 30. But dont stress over it too much, most ultrasound scans can clash with information given to you from your doctor. When u add the dates add FROM your last cycle 40 weeks. You will then have your final delivery date.

i am a doctor
and that kind of thing is unheard of
wrong usg dates are possible only by human error
no fault in the tecnique as such
the date given has to be assessed by a doctor
the baby may be "small for date"
giving a later date in your cse
get the report to your obstretician

If you thought you were having a period you could have been having implantation bleeding instead, so you very possibly conceived in Dec.
