Well, lets see......in '64, a top of the line Chevy Impala SS fully optioned cost $3700., so I would have to say in the 50's modestly priced cars were less than $2000.

A new 'vette in '62 was around $5500-$6000. A lot of money for a guy making only $2.00 HR. I couldn't afford one.

When the Pintos came out in'70, you could buy a NEW one (cheapo model) for about $1800.

They were fairly cheap as any factory worker could own one. In Europe people couldn'd affort cars until late sixties or seventies.
