I too smoked for over 40 years. I had to quit cold turkey. Nothing and I mean nothing satisfied me like a cigarette. Most pipe smokers I know, don't inhale or at least not as much as those who smoke cigarettes.that's the draw is the inhale. I used to watch my uncle smoke his pipe. He sort of kept it in his mouth and drew on it from time to time. Only rarely did I see him inhale any of it. I asked him once and he said he smoked it for the taste. Huh, I smoked purely for relief from the addiction to nicotine(long after the need for peer acceptance started me down the path).Long, deep inhalations. I even tried cigars once......yuck.......fake cigarettes with premeasured amts of nicotine (darn, just had to have a few 'real puffs" in between.). Patches just didn't deliver enough of a jolt the way a real cigarette does. I had to remove the patch and smoke, then put it back on....I finally stopped playing around and fooling myself. Jan 1st of 2006 I quit cold turkey.......It's all been good....

Maybe you could plaster your body with a dozen or so nicotine patches... that will probably get you off.
