I really appreciate show jumping. It isnt boring like dressage because there is an element of suspense especially in a jump off.

I LOVE showjumping for many reasons. First to me is the extraordinary trust exhibited by horse for his rider...against all his instincts he will jump a wall that he can't see the other side of, because his rider asks him to, and he trusts him. I am sure alot of Barbaro's ability to trust and cooperate with his caretakers as he has from the moment they asked him to get into the horse ambulance at Pimlico has alot to do with the trusting relationship he has with his trainer, Michael Matz, a famous show jumping rider and trainer. When you see a good jumper and rider in a jumpoff cutting corners to save time and the horse changing leads in midair its an incredible thing to watch. I also appreciate the fact that its the one horseshow event that the winner isn't an arbitrary choice of the judge. The horse clears the fences and he wins..He kncoks them down and he does't. No favoritism on the part of the judge can influence the outcome.

I LOVE horseracing also, don't get me wrong, but a top level jumper is every bit the athlete a top runner is, plus the jumper MUST have other qualities such as intelligence, a very special relationship with his rider to a degree far beyond that required by a racehorse, and a much more involved level of training. A showjumper usually hits his peak around 10 years of age, long after all racehorses are retired. {And hopefully not already made into horsemeat, something all horse lovers need unite together to put a stop to!}

I think showjumping requires alot of guts, I have seen and experienced some pretty nasty falls while jumping, and horses that jump are usually fantasticly good looking !
I pretty much love every equestrian event, western and english. To me it's about teamwork, a partnership. It doesn't matter to me what I do with my horse, as long as we're both having fun, you can't beat it.

Have fun Showjumping :)

Very interesting to watch and I like to jump.
I would not like to compete as it is to rigid and stuffy but I love to watch and I jump with my gelding here at home.
It is one of the things I teach the horses before I place them in new homes.
