I have studied other religions extensively. I teach, among other things, mythology and comparative religion. When I was younger, I had many doubts as to whether the Christian religion held the only truth. I had been raised in a Christian home and had gone to church all of my life. I knew the Bible fairly well for someone my age. I began to study what other faiths believed and became extremely interested in the mythology of all cultures. It was through the study of these other religions that I came back to the center of my own religion and found the answers that I was searching for.
All religions contain truth. When you study the teachings of the founders of the many world faiths, you will find that they all teach that we should love our Creator and our fellow man, and that we should all work for peace and harmony among all people. We are supposed to care for creation and for all those who are less fortunate than ourselves. This is just good basic morality and one doesn't have to be religious to do these things. Given the climate of the world today, we aren't doing a very good job of this.
For me, the one thing that none of these have is a personal savior that loves me as I am and lives in my heart. I know this is true, because of the peace that I have from trusting in him. When I ended my search and realized that where I was, was were I was supposed to be, a contentment that is beyond words settled over me and has not left. This doesn't make me any holier or better than anyone else. It just gives me profound happiness.
So the answer to your question is that, yes, I know a lot about what others believe and I choose to believe the way I do. My travels in other faith sealed my beliefs.

I was what some would call a bible thumper, i believed fully in christianity, but the more i thumped the more difficulty i had believing. i finally read the Quran in an effort to disprove my brothers islamic religion and found it to be a much more comprehensive guide through this life. Fortunately for me this was a little b4 9/11 and i wasn't filled with too much bias against the religion.
I am a strong advocate of research and critical thinking. I don't believe that following what the mass media says about any group is a very wise thing to do.
If you are curious about another religion, research it, if you find it to be more true than what you are on, don't fight the truth, follow it.

Yes. read, read, read about other faiths and religions. It has helped me to have more tolerance and understanding of other people and their traditions and it helped me not to be judgemental of others and it brought more peace and understanding to myself.
It allowed me not to feel that I had to prove anything to anyone. Everyone has their own personal relationship with the Creator. Everyone has their own personal understanding of who or what is the ultimate power and creative force. And no, it did not sway me away from my own beliefs.
I look at religion and each person's own way of communication with The Creator kind of like a form of language. We all speak a different language depending on which country/family we were born into. Same with religion....whichever country/family you were born into you most likely would believe that country's/ family's religion. So.....there really is no fear or arguing about it, it's just a different form of understanding and communing with The Creator. Learning French or Spanish isn't going to stop you from speaking English right? so learning about another religion won't harm you, just give you new and different insights.

I try to learn the basics and enjoy learning about other's views.
But my religion includes a lot of studying so I have to prioritize. In my religion we also study the cultures of the peoples who once worshiped our deities. This includes mythology, history, archeology and sometimes linguistics. We find inspiration in studying about the culture as well as through personal interaction with our deities.
So, my religious studies come first, then I enjoy learning about other religions. I still don't study them in depth because, well, I simply don't have time to intensely study something I don't believe in. A little is fine with me, if something caught my interest I'd look into it further.

some people believe that it's important to only go by the Bible and not study other religions because reading the Bible and being filled with God's Word will give you keener insight when deception enters the scene.
.....however, i am not easily shaken, am a critical thinker, i know in whom i have believed, and i like studying and being knowledgeable.....against others' wishes, i do study other religions on some level......not much anymore though, becuase i have so many other interests.
