This is the AKC site that gives the weight, height and color the Yorkie should be.
http://www.akc.org/breeds/yorkshire_terrier/index.cfm
There seems to be major confusion in the dog world as to what size a tea cup, tiny toy and micro mini are supposed to be, which is understandable since there are very few breeds that are actually distinguished by their weight, as with the standard, miniature, and toy poodle and the standard and miniature dachshund.
The general public tends to want the smallest of any small breed dog.
To accommodate this demand many breeders have started breaking down just about every breed and "making up" size groups to fit each weight. But there are NO standards with these made up groups. Each individual breeder has different ideas for the same dog IE
Breeder A
Toy = under 2 lb
Tea-cup = 2 - 4 lb
Mini = 4 - 5 lb
Micro-mini = over 5 lb
Breeder B
Toy = under 4 lb
Tea-cup = 4 - 6 lb
Mini = 6 - 9 lb
Micro-mini = over 9 lb
Now you can see the confusion, even among breeders there will be a huge difference on the same breed dog.
But the rules are all made up so no one knows.
The ones that suffer are the unsuspecting buyer and the honest breeders.

There is no such thing as a tea cup. That goes for any toy breed dog. Some breeders are using that term to entice people to buy.

There is no breed called a teacup anything.. it is a term used to define a dog of a toy breed that is 3 pounds or less when grown.. They are all the same dog, and the same registrations..Yorkies are all to be 7 pounds or less.

Teacup is just a cute word petstores came up with.
If you put 2 yorkies side by side, one "teacup" and one normal, the normal will be substantially larger than the teacup. Other than that there is not difference. Usually 'teacups' are just the runts of the litter anyway.
