Guys giving clothes, jewelry,perfume,shoes-gifts for girlfriends or just friends? I think there's some kind of etiquette of gift giving. My male friend disagrees. What if the friend has a boyfriend? What do you think?

Thanks. I'm trying to win an argument with a guy friend of mine. he wants to buy his friend some tank tops and shoes for her b-day. she has a b/f and i thought it was weird.

There's definately an etiquette to it. If she has a boyfriend, there may be some toe stepping. Guys giving gifts to girls who are just friends should limit themselves to something non-personal - gift certificates, candles, ect...leave the jewelry-giving to the boyfriend.

I don't know where you live, but where I live, giving gifts are only for people who have a strong relationship, doesn't matter what the gift is, but I guess friends (as in a girl and a guy friend) can give each other gifts on, say, like a birthday or another day of celebration. I believe it is a very suspicious act to just give gifts if you are not in a close relationship, especially on a non-celebration day, no matter what the gift, and it may seems very suspicious to the boyfriend or the girlfriend. I'm not sure if this was what you were looking for, I'm sorry if it wasn't.

Depending on how well you know a person... I mean if they were my friend for a long time, yes I would get them a gift like that, but I would get my gf something that meant MUCH more... remember no matter what the gift is, its the thought that counts. Meaning, a thought of, "your a good friend" or "I love you" thought...

I would never give jewelry or perfume to others girlfriends or wives. Clothes are good gifts.

For your gf I wouldgive something more personal than I would for just a freind..Like lingerie..that would be good for gf but maybe a gift card got just a freind...That way you aren't offending anyone and it stays innocent if you know what I mean
