So that kids can say aaaaaaaaahhhhhh! when their mothers are pushing them in the grocery cart over it. It makes the sound, sound bumpy... They LOVE IT! LOL

Never seen such things. And have driven all over the world.
I have occasionally seen large concrete and steel bollards, usually yellow, in front of storefronts to prevent vehicles from being crashed into the storefront. Is that what you are referring to? If so, now you know.

I think those were the old fashioned ways to sensor for the automatic doors. I can visualize what you are talking about but I haven't seen that in awhile.
