I know chicken egg from a store aren't fertile But I've been told by someone that eggs marked Organic or free range have secessfully hatched.

Is it true that eggs marked organic or free range can hatch?

I wanted to know this cause I want a chick to raise for a pet.

No jokes or wise cracks excepted.

But is this true or not?

If so, have you hatched organic or free range eggs before?

Would like an answer, thanks!

If you mean ones bought in a storethat are free range or organic? No, they cannot hatch.

They have been stored in very cold refridgerators and if they are fertalized, they will kill the fetus growing inside.

The best way to hatch an egg is to purchase a fertile egg from a pet store. A lot of breeders sell them as well.

I incubated duck eggs for years when I was younger. I used to raise the ducklings. They'd sleep with me at night, shower with me, and even go swimming with me. :) I miss them so.

If you crack open store bought egg and see a string that looks like snot on the yoke of the egg, it is fertile. Most egg farms will keep roosters around to keep the hens laying eggs, there is no way a male can get to every female on a chicken farm like that,so thats why you dont find all of the eggs fertile, sense they have been chilled they will never hatch though.

You may have better luck though if you buy the eggs from someone locally who has their own chickens - you can ask them if the hens are in with a rooster. Some people actually think that fertilized eggs taste better, so it wouldn't be too far fetched. You can probably buy a small incubator at your local farm & ranch store. We used to have a 1-4 egg incubator, and it worked really well. One of our friends even used it for her kindergarten class!

The easiest option would be to buy chicks or fertilized eggs from a hatchery's website - it's much more reliable than trying from free range eggs! One good hatchery (my mom gets her meat and egg chickens here) is Murry McMurray (www.mcmurrayhatchery.com) They have eggs, incubators, and accessories, but you have to buy the eggs in quantities of 10.

For a pet chicken, I would suggest getting a bantam breed - they are smaller and in my experience friendlier than some of the others. I used to have a banty rooster named Houdini :) Good luck!

yes free range chickens can and will hatch but you would be better off going to a feed store and buy a chick

Free range yes but it just depends on the situation if it comes right out of the coop or what because the rooster needs to do his thing with them before they are even ready to develop.
