It depends on which tooth, whether it is infected or not, and the speed of the dentist. A molar typically takes about 60 to 90 minutes, start to finish. This might be done in either one or two visits, depending on a number of factors. A front tooth will be quite a bit quicker, like maybe 30-45 minutes all told.
At least you know it shouldn't be anything like 4 or 5 hours, if you were just trying to get an idea.

Just had it done. About one and a half hours the first time, and dentist took a cast of my tooth to send to the dental lab so they could make a crown. Then the dentist installed the temporary crown.
About a week or so later, I went in and had the new crown installed, which took maybe 45 minutes.
I didn't like the idea of a root canal, but was left with no other options, because I couldn't afford the post and veneers. Plus I am pretty sure root canals are over prescribed. Oh, and I just started using the nicotine gum, and the ********************* crown is loose, so now I have to go back.
Nothing personal Dr Sam, I don't like root canals, and think the dental profession should police themselves a little better.

You'll be at the dentist for 1 1/2 to 2 hours... It all depends on how slow your dentist...
The actual procedure is about 45 minutes...
