Lately, everytime I get a paper cut or something I have been bleeding a lot before it clots. A few days back, I got a paper cut, and I thought that it would clot in a couple of seconds, but it just started bleeding and bleeding until blood dripped off my finger. I had to rush to get a bandaid.

Why has this been happening?

I don't drink and haven't taken any medications since a long time. ( Took a pill around December/January 2006 for a cold... But that's it )

All kinds of things can cause blood to thin, including foods. Blood having trouble clotting can also indicate medical problems. Only you know what you have done by drinking, eating, taking meds. etc, so only you can decide if you should see a doctor or not.

Also, paper cuts are a very dirty cut. It leaves lots of paper residue in the cut. This residue has chemical that restrict blood clotting. It is, usually, a deep cut also, and this can hamper clotting.

Lastly, age causes our blood to lose some of its clotting ability. Medical problems associated with aging can also cause this.

Are you taking Aspirin (ASA) or Heparin? Because these drugs is an antiplatlet which decreases the bloods ability to clot.

You also could have a rare disease called hemophiliac. Which also prohibits the blood to clot.

If it is the drug and you are prescribed it, you can talk to your Dr about the side effects. If your not prescribed it, maybe stop taking it or cut down the dose.

If your not on any meds, I suggest making a visit to your family doctor. He/She will do some simple tests and exams.

Hope this helps.

Try applying pressure to the cut. This helps the platelets (the things that cause blood to clot when you cut yourself) to stop the bleeding.

If you keep noticing things like that happening or you start to bruise very easily go to the doctors. It is probably nothing, but not clotting well can be a sign of much worse things - leukimia, namely.

I had this problem when I was taking a daily vitimin supplement . Are you taking vitamins . If so stop for a while and see if it changes. Mine had extra iron and that's what caused it. Maybe you should wear some of those latex gloves when handling paper. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Plasma helps clot your blood. You could be a hemophiliac and that's bad.
