Long distance relationships CAN last. I am in one that began face to face, went long distance and is going face to face again. But the thing that helps them to survive is a link established long before the long distance part of it starts. If he's a good guy and he feels the same way about you, things can go south QUICKLY if you call him excessively. Give him a chance to actually start missing you before you call him and also give him the chance to call YOU. My lover/boyfriend/fiancee and I live in different countries and well...calling each other every three hours is an expense neither of us can afford, but even if I called him every three hours of my waking days, every day, I'd annoy the living crap out of him, and he'd annoy me if he did the same to me. So the lesson here is don't get obsessive about it. Long distance relationships have enough working against them from outside, they don't need internal pressures too.
If you're both truly interested in maintaining the relationship, one of you is going to have to relocate. If the relationship is worth it, one of you will. OR both of you will relocate to some neutral spot where you can each start a new life WITH each other. But if you called 53 times that's probably a bit excessive. But I do have to ask. 53 times in what period of time. 53 times in something like 2 days? 53 times in 53 days? Things like this make a difference. But if I may, the the thing I'd share is that I called my boyfriend about 50-something times as well...but that has been in a period of 4 years. We chat daily on the internet, and we send postcards. The thing is, we give each other space, we give each other the chance to miss the other person and we are both working on starting a life together, beginning in his home city, and later in a city that is somewhere between HIS home city and Mine.
So, if your guy has the potential to be a long lasting boyfriend, give him the chance to be that. Trust him and show him that you trust him. No love relationship is going to survive without the trust element.

Stop calling. If you call too much, your going to run him off.
No guy wants a woman that's a pest. He may want to stay friends and hook up with you later, but you have to give him his room.

Oh, Please do not do that! no boy is worth that great effort. mostly likely you will drive your potential good long last boyfriend crazy and flee away. Good guys are everywhere. Try finding a new target closer to you!
