My male pomeranian had what's called collapsing trachea which is common in very small breeds. Basically, it is exactly as it is called, meaning that the dog's trachea collapses or narrows causing cough, wheezing, and difficulty breathing. This condition can also cause secondary heart enlargement and pulmonary problems. Another possibilty is that it is actually what's called a "reverse sneeze" and is harmless to the dog. If you close his mouth and blow into his nose when he is doing this, it will stop the episode. It sounds as if they are gagging/choking or trying to get air as if they are hyperventilating. A more serious possibility is kennel cough and usually occurs when boarding with infected dogsor if he's been around an infected dog. It's airborne and doesn't require direct contact.

I have several pomeranians. It very comon in all small breed and a lot in pom's where they have what is called an colasping trechea.
Can be life threating if not controled. you should go to your vet. they will do X-Ray. I have one that is real bad. might need surgery. But I give her a cough medication calledhydromet 0.8 ML 4 times a day.
The vet need to call the pres into your pharmacy.
all so if your dog is over weight you must get it down.
if you use a collar stop take it off use only a harness.
good look with your baby.

2 things that could be causing it environmentally: drinking too fast, and moving air.
If he drinks a lot and comes up hacking, he probably has a collapsible trachea or similar problem. My papillon has this, and he often sounds like he's hacking, but the vet says he is just fine.
Never put your windows down with a pom in the car, the wind can cause tracheal collapse also.
Definitely see a vet to rule out any serious problems.

Congestive heart failure (this is my bet)
Heartworms
Lung cancer.
Throat cancer.
All these things are common in old age. You gotta go to a vet. There are treatment options, and measures you can take if it is one of these. But you gotta see a doctor.
Good luck. Sorry for the grim news, hope I'm wrong.

Take him to the vet right away. My dog is currently in the hospital ICU at UC Davis because I ignored his cough and it turned into pneumonia. Better to get it taken care of before it turns into something serious, or maybe even fatal. Best of luck.

Technically an grownup yet being a guy is a heck of lot greater desirable than attaining an age that's strikes and character like the previous Kipling poem "IF" says in case you are able to shop your head whilst all approximately you're dropping theirs and blaming it on you; in case you are able to believe your self whilst all adult men doubt you, yet make allowance for his or her doubting too; in case you are able to wait and not be drained by using waiting, Or, being lied approximately, do no longer deal in lies, Or, being hated, do no longer provide thank you to hating, And yet do no longer look too stable, nor communicate too smart; in case you are able to dream - and not make desires your grasp; in case you are able to think of - and not make recommendations your objective; in case you are able to fulfill with triumph and disaster And manage those 2 imposters purely the comparable; in case you are able to undergo to hearken to the certainty you have spoken Twisted by using knaves to make a catch for fools, Or watch the flaws you gave your existence to broken, And droop and build 'em up with wornout equipment; in case you additionally could make one heap of all your winnings And threat it on one turn of pitch-and-toss, And lose, and start up lower back at your beginnings and not in any respect breath a word approximately your loss; in case you are able to tension your coronary heart and nerve and sinew To serve your turn long as quickly as they're long previous, And so carry on whilst there's no longer something in you different than the will which says to them: "carry on"; in case you are able to communicate with crowds and shop your distinctive function, Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch; If neither foes nor loving acquaintances can harm you; If all adult men count variety with you, yet none too lots; in case you are able to fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds' properly worth of distance run - Yours is the Earth and each thing that's in it, And - that's greater - you would be a guy my son!
