Is your cat an outside cat? I dont imagine it would be a real problem, except... I hope your cat has all its vaccinations! Especially rabies vaccine. Thats the only thing I would be worried about, it your cat catching something if the possum is infected.

Very strange, but strange things happen. Back when I worked with wild animals I had a Mountain Lion, a domestic cat and an Asian otter all living in the same house. The mountain lion was on a long leash but she played with both, and the other two played together.

I would worry about the parents, but maybe they are gone. The cat would be the one to object first so maybe it senses the possum needs some help, like food and water.

I would keep a close watch on my cat and not leave it outside out of my sight at all. Leave the cat in when you have to leave, got to work or whatever. If you insist on letting him out, then stay with him.

Get some good pictures if you can.

This normal. We had a opossum living under the house and a cat next door would play with it all the time.

Rabies shot for the cat is an absolute must, but other than that it should be fine.

Bring to posoum home :)

Just kidding, but yes, make sure your cat has its shots and I guess just let them be.
