Tell us the scale. High points in oppositional behavior means that he is aggressive, probably. Low points in attention would mean that he pays attention. (This is pure speculation on my part.)

Perhaps you can scan the letter and let us see.

It sounds like the questionaires may have pointed toward ODD (Oppositional Defiance Disorder), rather than ADHD. Teachers and parents don't always answer the questionaires the same though. Your son's teacher is most likely working with 20 or more students. She may not see all of the behaviors that you see. Parents are sometimes reluctant to be to negative on the questionaires too. There are some very good websites that will help you determine whether or not your child has ADHD. Check them out with a simple web search. Your son can be "hyperative" without having ADHD. Cut back on his sugar and caffiene levels and increase his exercise daily. If you're not satisfied with the test resullts, consult someone who deals specifically with child behavior.

What this sounds like to me is that the school did a basic test to determine the "potential" for hyperactivity. These tests are only basic and the school doctor involved is probably not a specialist in the field of psychology and as such is not qualified to make a final determination. I think they are trying to tell it is possible your child has this problem and you should take the letter to a child psychologist for further tests and evaluation. Its just in case the problem exists.

There are several diagnoses that are closely related and often overlap in symptoms, especially in children, like ADHD, oppositional defiance disorder, and hidden allergies. Kids with any of these often react very differently in school and home environments. A child who is quiet and cooperative at home may be argumentative and outspoken (impulsive) at school or vice versa. I would recommend you research ADHD and oppositional defiance disorder to learn more. Also I would seek advice from a child psychologist or therapist (be sure it is someone who has experience and is comfortable working with a child). Good luck!

MOst kids have a lot of energy.
What you need to do is:
1. (MOST IMPORTANT) cut out sugars in his diet. NO SODA or sugary cearals in the morning. No ice cream. Get ice yohgurt and fruits and nuts. This will eliminate most hyperactive behaviour.

2. GET THE KID A HOBBY. Books or music or sports or dancing or whatever. CHANNEL THE ENERGY.

3. DONT MEDICATE unless the doctors tell you that it is necessary for his HEALTH (NOT for YOUR sanity). Kids have loads of energy. Channel it, don't kill it.

it looks like he has a short attention span, or ADD, possibly ADHD, which is worse
