My dentist constructed a care plan for me. Next week I will be receiving a filling in two of my teeth. The care plan says MIBL Resin +4 surface. What does this mean? sounds kinda complicated. The other teeth that I will be having filled just says amalgam surface and the cost is a lot less...real strange. My tooth doesnt look "THAT" bad...?

It looks like the type of filling they will be using and the location of the tooth. It might be more expensive because it's deeper then the others...? Just a quess. Good Luck.

MIBL (Mesial, incisal, Buccal & lingual) are the surfaces of the tooth. +4 meaning four surfaces. Mesial is the middle (inbetween), incisal is the chewing surface, buccal is the cheek side & lingual is the tongue side. Resin is a tooth colored type of filling material. This is going to be a very large filling. You might even ask your dentist about longivity. Sometimes a crown would serve better. Resin fillings are more expensive than amalgams. And even tho your tooth "dosen't look that bad", the decay is most likely into the inner structure of the tooth that you don't see.

Teeth are numbered from the upper right wisdom tooth across to the upper left wisdom tooth, then down to the lower left and again across to the right. They are also given surfaces: Mesial (surface towards the midline; the imaginary line between your two front teeth), distal (away from the midline), incisal (the sharp edge on the anterior teeth; canines and teeth between them), buccle (cheek side on posterior teeth; those behind the canines), facial (lip side), lingual (tongue side) and occlusal (chewing surface on back teeth). The letters in MIBL stand for mesial, incisal, buccle, and lingual and the +4 means that this is the number of surfaces that the filling will cover. Fillings are coded by the number of surfaces that it will cover, and 4 is usually the highest charge even if it covers 5 sufaces. Resin is a name for a tooth colored filling, also called composite. Amalgam is the metal type. Alot of detail but I hope that explained it.

Teeth that are visible are filled with resin which can be colored to match your teeth and can be nearly invisable. The molars are filled with the much cheaper amalgam as these are not generally visible. The dentist will take care of the mixing, etc. and you just have to decide if you like it.

As wat dr sam has said, MIBL suggests tat its ur front tooth n 4 surfaces of it needs to b filled. since its a front tooth, ur dentist would b doin a white filling which costs more then a silver filling which is the amalgam filling u hve mentioned.

"MIBL" tells me it is a front tooth. You don't want a silver filling there. It sounds like the corner is gone from your tooth, so it's a large filling. Resin fillings are white and they take longer and are harder to do than silver fillings.

sounds to me like you've got a nasty cavity there! If your dentist is going to treat 4 surfaces of one tooth, it's probably because the tooth is going to need treatment on 4 sides to stop the spread of the cavity and completely seal it.
