I'm 19 too, and have gone through some serious depression. One of the things that I've found most comforting is being able to talk through what you're going through with someone who cares. If you'd like, you can contact me and I can see what help I can give you as an ear and as an advice giver in order to help you feel better. One of the best things you can do is talk with a friend, and I know all too well what you're going through. But answering it here, without any more information, I can only tell you that talking to someone will help lift the singular responsibility from your spirit.

If you're attending college, go to the student care center or whatever it's called where you are. They should have low- or no-cost help available to you. You can also pop by your local mental health center for help, or ask your parents if they can help you out.

As far as what to tell the doctor, you're spot on in what you could say. Just tell them that you think you have depression, and if they ask you why, tell them what symptom you've been having. Any doctor worth their salt will make a serious effort to evalutae you for a diagnosis, or at the very least look into counseling services for you. Best wishes!

I also suffered from anxiety with paranoia and depression for years. It was very serious. I suffered from Obsessive compulsive disorder, which is anxiety so severe that you perform rituals to try to ease the anxiety. I was on medications for 7 years. I had tried many many times to go off, and could never cope for more than a few weeks. I was a wreck. I faced an unplanned pregnancy a year ago, and I was worse than ever. I wanted to die. The sorrow and dispare that I felt were absolutely devastating, I literally wanted to die. In my most broken moments, I would cry out to God. There were two nights, where I was in absolute desperation. God came to me both nights, and filled me with such joy and peace that I was actually laughing in the midst of my tears. I don't know if you've ever experience Gods presence before, but it's the most amazing experience ever. I belived that he told me over those two days that I was delivered from all of the depression and anxiety. I then went off medication, and have been off for 8 months. I was healed, because in my broken moments, I cried out to God. He is always faithful. He may not do it exactly when you want, but if you trust him no matter what and keep believing. He will do it. Where the spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom!! If you recieve the spirit of God and have his spirit living in you, then you are Free. He promises that in his word. If you need to go on medication for a while too, that's ok. I wasn't in a place 7 years ago in my faith to be able to trust God to heal me. Just remember though, that He will heal you if you Believe, and seek Him. You don't have to be a slave to depression or medications. God Bless

you need to see a doctor and tell him how you are feeling. get medically cleared before you see a therapist because sometimes, when we might be getting a disease, our bodies let us know by depression. once you are sure there is nothing physically wrong with you, go to you local mental health facility and ask to be evaluated by a cdmhp. tell them you think you are depressed and you would like to see a therapist or a psychiatrist. some county mental health facilities have a sliding scale fee system that bills you according to your income. you may have to go on some medications, but they probably will be low dose and will improve your overall mental well being. in the mean time, eat a well balanced diet rich in vitamin d, fiber, and eat a rainbow of fruits/berries and vegies every day. drink plenty of water and green tea. make sure to get out in the sun for at least 30 minutes a day and try to exercise for 30 minutes a day as well. the exercise will get your blood flowing and provide more oxygen to your brain. but, make sure to make an appt with your doctor to get medically cleared and to get referrals to some licensed mental health professionals. if you feel suicidal, please go to the nearest emergency room or call 911.

Most schools have some type of counseling that you don't have to pay for.
Just tell the doctor that you are feeling depressed, they will ask you a bunch of questions to figure out what's going on.

For all those people saying to "just be happy", get a clue. Depression is an illness, it's not a bad mood that just goes away. Don't you think that if it were that easy psychiatrists would run out of business?

A general practice doctor or urgent care doctor can help you decide where to begin with treatment (often a combination of therapy and medicine). Tell him/her that you think you are depressed, as well as symptoms like not sleeping/sleeping all the time, change in appetite, etc. Good luck and God bless!

You should be able to find some kind of medical care at a clinic, even if it's just a regular doctor. They might be able to help you find a psychologist that will treat you at little cost.

You could also call hospitals in the area, Planned Parenthood, or some other organization that can help you find low-cost psychiatric care.

Good luck and hang in there.

Simply tell the doctor how you feel. If you don't have the money for a doctor visit, check out an area mental health department. They often have services for free - counselling, medication, etc. If you don't have insurance, look for a program such as Access (the PA health assistance program) to help cover costs you may incur. Help yourself too. Think about the things making you depressed (job, lack of job, dating problems, etc.) and try to make changes. We have to make the best of our lives. If you don't like something about your life, change it - make it better.

There has got to be some kind of free clinic in your area? Look it up on the net. If you think your depressed you probably are! Just tell them how you feel. Don't lie, just be honest, if they think you need meds I am sure they can find something to help you. Pray about it, God will help. In the mean time don't let it get you down, try to think about all the positive things you have in your life!!! Will help alot, trust me!

I'm sorry to read that you aren't doing well, but this can be changed, if you want it to.

If you are a University student, go to Student Health Services and explain what you just told us.

If you are not a student, go to your local Yellow Pages and look for your equivalent of the County Mental Health Center. Many of their services are so low-cost that they might as well be free.

I sure wish you good luck!
