I took my kids off formula before they were 8 months old,(esp. my oldest,he weighed 10# when he was born).I am a nurse and their Grandfather is a doctor, and told me that since they were eating baby food and table food, they did not need formula.
TRY some PEDIASURE. It taste better then formula and is good for toddlers or even school age kids.
Do what you think ids RIGHT for YOU and your baby.

How old is your baby? They aren't spose to start drinking whole milk until 12 months. Although at about 10 1/2 mos I started mixing it to get them used to it. Id put 1oz with the formula for 2 weeks. Then I'd increase it a little every 2 weeks. So that by the time they are 12 months they've already gotten used to the difference in taste. My kids' pediatrician recommended doing that. But if they are younger than that...then NO WAY should they have whole milk. It can damage their stomach. The milk is too hard for them to digest. And as you said...it doesnt have some of the key vitamins that babies need. Hope this helped a lil bit.

Iron isn't in whole milk because the general public doesn't need it added to their milk. It also would change the taste and color of the milk. Most people don't want yellow/brown milk and Iron doesn't taste good. If your baby is on iron supplements you can mix it in 2 oz of formula and your baby should be on iron fortified formula to begin with.

If your child is old enough to be having whole milk, they shouldn't need the iron from formula anymore and should be getting enough from the solid foods they are eating. Babies under age 1 shouldn't be on whole milk--breast milk or formula.

if they baby is over 1 yr they should be completly off formula my bro in law had his daughter on it til she was 18 months and now she wont drink nothing but that. you can make sure there are high amounts of iron in his food. iron is more important in the first yr but the baby still needs it through life. if the baby is under a yr he shouldnt be on whole milk. there are more bacteria and alot of things in it when u have it at room temperature to give the baby and most time the baby dont want it cold. wait til the baby is a yr then wean him on the milk and make sure you have the nutrients in his food and hell be fine.

Your baby shouldn't be drinking whole milk(i.e. cow's milk, goat milk, etc.) before the age of 1 yr. old. Up until then, your baby should be either breastfed or fed formula that already has iron in it. Whole milk, before the age of 1, can leave your baby deficient in many nutrients that he/she needs. If you can't afford formula (which is the case with many these days), go to your local WIC office or human services to see about receiving coupons for free formula w/iron. Many WIC offices give monthly coupons to mothers so they can get enough for their baby each month. Unless your child is diagnosed with an iron deficiency by their doctor, you should never supplement them with iron.

What kind of iron are you mixing in the baby's formula? Usually formula comes with iron in it, if that is what your doctor has directed you to do. I wouldn't start giving the baby anything without clarifing it with your physician. No doubt your baby has had blood work, if the baby needed iron your doctor would have instructed you to give the formula with iron. Iron can make the baby very constipated which will cause it pain. Please, before you do this, check with your pediatrician. Thanks.

If your child is old enough to go off formula then they should be eating a balanced diet that will include enough Iron in it natrually. If your concerned about her nutrition, start checking lables fo the food you feed her or ask your doctor about liquid vitamins...yes, iron is good for her developig mind but too much is a very bad thing.
I bet he/she is getting more then you think.

I would use the recommended amount of Poly-Vi-Sol or baby vitamins in formula for a baby under one year, and milk for a baby over one year. There are also "toddler formulas" to add to milk for nutritional insurance.

Babies under the age of a year should not be given cow's milk. Babies a year and older start eating solids and should get enough iron from it.
