You two have know each other for 15 years. Is he interested or did he just say it to be nice?

I think you have to get your mind to a state where you don't _need_ for him to call. Go on about your life, and if it's convenient, give him a call. But don't get hung up about who called first, or what it means, or whatever. When a guy doesn't call, it doesn't mean much. Women think about this sort of thing much more than men do.

Trust me, as a guy... we don't think much at all, then usually it's usually "junior" talking.

Sounds like he was just trying to be nice. The ole "I'll call you line" is a pretty good indication that he is not interested, but that's what they all say. If he didn't call by now, I don't think he is going to.
