Er? Did you...um, word that question the way you intended? How can something be based on theory? Theory of what?

Regarding evolution...what does atheism have to do with evolution? I suppose a lot of atheists believe in evolution, but then again a lot of children believe in Santa Clause; it doesn't mean that children are based in Santa Clause. I'm still not sure I understand what you're asking...

Instead of just trying to correct you or sound smart, I will actually try to understand and answer your question.

I think you are asking what is the foundation or basis for someone being an atheist? What do atheists build their worldview on?

Well, there are lots of different kinds of atheism.

However, most atheists do believe that the theory of evolution is the explanation for how human beings got here and why we are the way we are.

Evolution doesn't explain exactly how life started in the first place, and it doesn't explain where the Big Bang came from.

The honest scientific answer to where the Big Bang came from is: We don't know yet, and we might never know with confidence.

Clearly, the Big Bang didn't just happen out of nothing for no reason. The universe has a massive amount of order and structure -- and if you follow Chaos Theory and String Theory, it is likely that there is no such thing as randomness or disorder.

BUT: People who believe in God are actually in a worse position. When you ask a scientist where the Big Bang came from, he or she will say: "We don't know yet for sure." When you ask a Christian where God came from, he or she will say: "God is eternal: He was always around."

This is just cheating the question. Christians always ask me: "How do you explain how something came from nothing without a Creator?"

I should be asking Christians this question! They suggest that God, who is definitely Something, just happened to always be here.

Most atheists believe that the meta-universe, or the system behind* the Big Bang is eternal and was always around. There is no such thing as nothing, and no such thing as disorder. Therefore, there is no reason to believe in a God to explain how something came from nothing and how order came from disorder!

*I say "behind" because technically nothing came "before" the Big Bang: What we call "time" probably did not exist before the Big Bang occurred.

I hope this helps.

Here is the link between atheism and science in general (and evolution is a scientific theory supported by mountains of hard evidence):

-They are both based on rationality rather than "faith".

Now, this somewhat depends on if you are talking about strong or weak atheism.

To claim that there is no God is not a scientific claim, it is in fact a statement of faith, and so is not based on rationality.

Weak atheism, on the other hand, says there is no direct and testable evidence of any kind of "superior intelligence" so, that being an unproven theory at best, cannot be rationally deemed to be "true".

So, this issue is complicated and, as usual with indiviual belief systems, depends largely on the person who believes them; how well they have thought them through; and how much weight they put on verifiable experiment vs. faith.

No. Atheism has nothing whatsoever to do with evolutionary theory. It is simply the absence of belief in a deity.

Many (?most) atheists probably do support it as the most reasonable, science based explanation of the diversity of life. However, nothing in evolution excludes the possiblity of a deity...many religions support evolution but hold that it is "god's plan"...the Catholic church, for example.

There are many many reasons people become atheists, the evidence of evolution is just one thing that supports that belief.

A little bit of both. We as a society have evolved beyond the idea of worshipping a single entity. It used to be that religion can justify actions, or relieve insecurities. Now I believe the church has been pass and is no longer needed. People have started thinking for themselves and do not want to be led like sheep. Why should I pray? If I live a good life and help others when I am able, does that not qualify me for heaven if there is one? Why must I donate my hard earned money to a religious institution just so someone can tell me I'm a good person and doing a good job? I feel secure with myself enough to know that I'm not hurting anyone and I do right things in my own eyes. I don't need anyone telling me this.

Atheist's believe there is no Creator. So they have to believe in evolution. All this came from one or the other either we where created or we where not!

But ultimately evolution and theory are the same thing. Evolution has no fact just theories that adapt to new findings!

No. Atheism is based on thinking about things logically, and comparing claims against reality. In my world, there's quite a bit of good evidence that mental illness is caused by an chemical imbalance in the brain, and virtually none for the claim mental ilness is caused by demon possession. There's a lot of evidence that medical intervention will be effective in an accidental child poisoning, and prayer alone will not.

I looked at the theologies of many religions and decided from that that deities do not exist. Evolution is a scientific matter and is separate from atheism.

Evolution has nothing to do with Atheism.

Nope, atheism means you don't believe in a God, and evolution just does NOT say that there is no God, or even says anything about it either way.

What evolution is, though, is right. :)
