I forgot the verse, but there is one that says that christians will meet jesus in the clouds and people took this as the indication of a rapture.

That's a myth and it was proved wrong. It was based off of the vision God gave John. The reason we know that is because the actual writings of revelation were dated back way before 1830 and the hand writing of that book and other books John has written were the same. So actually, the information you received was false.

For the record, the theory of "rapture" isn't and not in any respect has been area of canonized scripture. in basic terms by using tearing some verses out of context, raping their translation to impose a fraudulent meaning upon them, and foisting them upon the gullible and uneducated has the theory exchange into an element of so-called "doctrine" to area of Christianity. The mainstream rejected this theory, and should no longer be held in the comparable easy of ridicule with the aid of fact the fundies. In a different time, Margaret, Irving, Darby, Scofield, and Tim LaHaye could have been horsewhipped in the back of the sanctuary for being so stupid, and, whilst it comes to Scofiend and l. a. Haye, grasping.

Because until recently this information was not readily available. This is something that most Christians in the fundamentalist faith insist will happen.
I don't believe they are stupid. But I think they would rather insist that they could not possibly live during this time period than face any other alternative.
Christians, be prepared to live through a hard time. I hope I'm wrong on the tribulation being soon, but I'd rather be prepared than be caught unawares.

the Rapture isn't Biblical. it was the brainchild of two theologians during the 1800's. Miller, and Darby. Miller was the source of 'the great disappointment', in which he told his followers that he knew the exact date of Christ's Return, based on some calculations he'd done w/numbers in the Bible. Darby was the first person to use Dispensationalism to block off human history into 7 periods of time, or 'dispensations', that marked God's relationship w/humankind in ways.
both men based their thoughts on the verse in 1st Thesolonians that mentions the dead in Christ rising first, and those of us which are alive and remain, being caught up in the air, and so shall we ever be w/the Lord.
Hope this helps

"For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words." (1 Thess, 4:16-18).
