A good towing package should include major rear suspension upgrades as well as wiring and transmission cooler upgrades. Rear axle gearing on 2wd drive towcars may be lower. May include some engine modifications such as an RV camshaft. When choosing a towcar choose carefully. My '71 Chevy pickup will Tow 8,000 lb. A good tow package should include a controller for trailer brakes for any trailer over 2,000 lb. Larger brakes on the towcar are sometimes included. If U can't back it up don't consider towing a trailer. I'm talking reverse here. When towing U gotta back up with mirrors U know...........Make sure any towcar U have got good ones!

It probably varies with different vehicles. The last one I had with a tow package was a ford aerostar. It came with heavy suspension, heavy duty cooling, 4.11 limited slip rear end, trans cooler, and no trailer hitch...

Upgraded cooling system and trans cooler, upgraded alternator, trailer wiring harness and suspension upgrades as a minimum. Many include a numerically higher final drive ratio and some include a hitch receiver as well.

In the '70's, in addition to all that other stuff, they even put in a heavy duty flasher for the turn signals, as the additional lights on a trailer would burn out the flasher quickly.

Those are probably standard on ALL vehicles now.

it would be the hitch, the trailer wiring, possibly different ratio gears in the transmission and differential and a larger transmission fluid cooler
