I think it is a basic nature of human being to be good and to have God in their heart. Even atheists "worship" something and pursue goodness. They can see unfair things on this world and they get very upset.
Unfortunately, we have been far from our genuine Creator. We need to "go home" and that's what Jesus has provided through His death. Now, we just need to believe to Him and we will have eternal life.

A feel good religion is the expression I always use for people who go to the churches that are intense. It's a high and it makes them feel good...it's really like a cult. What do they do when they don't feel good or face a real life problem. They loose their faith or don't believe or act like they don't have a religion. Problem is God is not a religion He is a way of life, good, bad or indifferent. If you love God and have faith you don't need a church to hold your spirit. God is with you always.

Because they want to be able to tell God what the requirements are in order to enter his kingdom. They only want the part of religion that does not require any personal effort or saccrifice.
For those who call themselves "christians", true religion requires self saccrifice just as Jesus showed us. It also requires strict obedience.
Humans are selfish; we don't want to deprive ourselves of anything that might bring us pleasure even if it is temporary or will later bring missery. The "feel good religion" allows them to take the title without paying the price; they can call themselves christians, and they can keep practising their sins.
And you say "God knows my heart." Yes he does, and he only accepts pure hearts.

It's because in our society we are motivated by what WE want. We choose a religion like we chose everything else, we chose what is best for US, we pick religion based on what it has to offer us. It should be based on what God wants and the truth, not on what we want.

Because they may want to be good, fell good, and have it all. Whether they embody these ideas is beside the point. I wanted a religion that didn't condem others, so I searched until I found one that made sense to me.

It comes from hoping to justify poor behavior. Because of this we have found that there are a great many of "cafeteria" religions. "Take or leave what you like. It's our ow personal taste." But just because you like a lot of cookies it doesn't mean you won't get fat.
