I had a great salad, followed by a caramelized roasted DUCK with oyster sauce and shavings of bitter chocolate, sautéed potato's and an assortment of veggies, accompanied by Cristal champagne, all topped off by a piece of apple pie and a scoop of vanilla ice cream for desert and finally brought to a balanced conclusion by a wonderful cup of Italian espresso coffee. ...Though, I reckon just about anything will do, as long as you put plenty of LOVE into it. The old "Low Blow" fast foods and drinks like Pizza, Hot Dog, Cheese Burger, French Fries, Coke, chocolates and sweets, etc., will always be among the big favorites with the kids (and some bigger "kids" too); but I think that's taking the easy way out and instilling bad eating habits. ... Anyway, thinking back, I am amazed at all the fond memories I still carry around inside me from the dishes that my mom used to serve us, some of which I would NOT dream of touching with a ten foot pole now! She passed away when I was 5, but strangely enough most of my memories of her somehow revolve around the favorite family recipes - and I am NOT big on eating either! But to address your question, here is my 2 cents' worth: Fix all their favorite (fast, etc.) foods with a healthy twist to them by substituting the nasty ingredients with the healthier choices; that way you are sure to:
1) never run of great recipes;
2) keep them happy;
and
3) take comfort in the fact that they are eating healthy stuff.

PIZZA UNOS DEEP PAN CHICAGO STYLE PIZZA
Source: The Pizza Book: Everything There Is To Know About the World's Greatest Pie by Evelyne Slomon
Servings: 6
FOR THE CRUST:
1 cup warm tap water (110-115 degrees f)
1 pkg active dry yeast
3 1/2 cups flour, divided use
1/2 cup coarse ground cornmeal
1 tsp salt
1/4 cup vegetable oil
FOR THE FILLING:
1 lb sausage, removed from the casing and crumbled
1 lb mozzarella cheese, sliced
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 (28 oz) can whole tomatoes, drained and coarsely crushed
3 tsp dried oregano (or 5 fresh basil leaves, shredded
4 tbsp freshly grated parmesan
TO PREPARE THE CRUST:
Pour the warm water into a large mixing bowl and dissolve the yeast with a fork. Add 1 cup of flour, all of the cornmeal, salt, and, and vegetable oil. Mix well with a spoon. Continue stirring in the rest of the flour 1/2 cup at a time, until the dough comes away from the sides of the bowl.
Flour your hands and the work surface and knead the ball of dough until it is no longer sticky.
Let the dough rise in an oiled bowl, sealed with plastic wrap, for 45 to 60 minutes in a warm place, until it is doubled in bulk.
Punch dough down and knead it briefly. Press it into an oiled 15-inch deep dish pizza pan, until it comes 2 inches up the sides and is even on the bottom of the pan. Let the dough rise 15-20 minutes before filling.
Preheat the oven to 500 degrees.
TO PREPARE THE FILLING:
While the dough is rising, prepare the filling ingredients. Cook the crumbled sausage until it is no longer pink, drain it of its excess fat; set aside.
TO ASSEMBLE AND BAKE:
When the dough has finished its second rising, lay the mozzarella cheese over the dough shell. Then distribute the sausage and garlic over the cheese. Top with the tomatoes. Sprinkle on the seasonings and parmesan cheese.
Bake for 15 minutes at 500 degrees.
Then lower the oven temperature to 400 degrees and bake for 25 to 35 minutes longer. Lift up a section of the crust from time to time with a spatula to check on its color. The crust will be golden brown when done. Serve immediately.

Mexican Lasagna
1 pkg aztec taco salad shells (I find in a box in dairy section by soft tortillas)
1 lb. ground beef, browned and seasoned with taco seasoning. (I use only Chi-chis brand.
8 ox pkg shredded cheddar, 8 oz pkg shredded cojack combined in a bowl with a can diced green chiles and a medium onion fine chopped.
Layer, one shell, 1/4 of meat mixture, 1/4 of cheese mixture until you have used the 4 shells. Try to save a little cheese til the end. Pour a 16 oz jar of good salsa over the top of the whole thing and any extra cheese you might have left. Bake for 45 minutes in a 350 hot oven. I bake mine in a deep dish stoneware pizza style pan.
And if you can't find the shells, I have in a pinch buttered both sides of 4 soft tortillas about 10 inches and "crisped" them on a griddle. Not too much so they don't get brittle. But if you find the taco salad shells no need to crisp them use them right out of package.
This is so easy and very good. I love sour cream on top of mine.

I had pan-fried red snapper with asperagas and wild rice.
As far as cooking for boys....nothing beats a tasty grilled cheeseburger. Grill the burgers and prepare the toppings and condiments. Allow your kids to build their own burger...like at Fudrucker's.

Dinner:
Oven-fried chicken (I admit it, I use Shake & Bake)
Baked macaroni & cheese
Peas
Dessert:
Store-bought pound cake
strawberries
whipped cream
I wouldn't win any Mother of the Year awards for it, but my boys (6 and 8) love it!

we are having pulled pork sandwiches. it is one I could desire to plot forward for because of fact the pork takes approximately 12-14 hours to make in the crock pot. For something of the week: Tuesday: pork stew (made out of leftover pot roast) and biscuits , Wednesday: hamburgers/warm canines on the grill, Thursday: poultry and dumplings in the crock pot, and Friday night is pizza night (homestead made pizza--yet on condition that our oven gets mounted till now Friday--it is been broken for the reason that mom's Day), leftovers on Saturday

Today we had grilled smoked sausages, with steamed green beans (fresh from the garden) my 9 year old daughter and her friend helped me snap and cut them up. We also had my children's all time favorite: Velveeta macaroni and cheese.
