yes, man siftwares available for compression, even if r u using windows XP that have inbuilt capability for compression or download Winzip or Winrar from Net

7-zip, Camzip, both free and great, especially 7-Zip, just run a google search to find out how to download it. then install it, launch it, find the files you want to compress, and DONE!!

use any compression archiver.. winzip and winrar are popular in windows.. tape archive,gunzip,bz2 are for linux.. just make sure your recipient could extract it.
