I am trying to decide if this is an exceptable translation?

I personally would not recommend the message to anyone! It adds and adds to the Word of God when the Bible says not to do so!
If you are looking for an easier translation I would suggest the Revised Standard or the New American Standard!

Translations offers a means to alter the content, being translated.
It's always best the stay as close to the original as possible, if you don't have the original.
Example take a original treasure map translate the map using many translations. With each translation, a small part of the original map omitted or added, thus the treasure is never found.

It's not a translation. It's a fair PARAPHRASE, like The Living Bible, though I find The Message sometimes a bit clumsy and awkward. It helps to break-up the familiarity of other translations so that you can glean something different about the same passage though. So in that sense, it is helpful.

The heart of the Bible is still there. The main reason for this translation is to help unbelievers know that God doesn't speak in goofy religious sounding King James isms. It is to help the reader get more of a grasp of the meaning that the writers intended.

which book and which message?
if you mean about the Bible then yes it's a very exceptable and reliable translation. it ur talking about the Gospel message in the New Testament then yes since it is in the Bible it is an exceptable and reliable translation.

I don't like the modern translations like that. I prefer the KJV. It seems the newer ones water down some teachings and actually have removed verses that were in the KJV. Stick with the best, you may have to think a little harder, but it will be worth it.

the reason for the King James Version is that it is the best english to greek translation. or I said that backwards...sorry....Why not read a couple of translations and make your get your own message from them.

VERY second best even as a Paraphrase.
Why not get a NEW KING JAMES!
KJV is best-- but if you are a CHICKEN-- the New KJV would do.
