If the anti-abortion movement took a tenth of the energy they put into noisy theatrics and devoted it to improving the lives of children who have been born into lives of poverty, violence, and neglect, they could make a world shine. ~Michael Jay Tucker
Society does not need more children; but it does need more loved children. Quite literally, we cannot afford unloved children - but we pay heavily for them every day. There should not be the slightest communal concern when a woman elects to destroy the life of her thousandth-of-an-ounce embryo. But all society should rise up in alarm when it hears that a baby that is not wanted is about to be born. ~Garrett Hardin
George W. Bush will protect your unborn fetus, and then send your grown child to die in war. ~Rick Claro

My opinion about abortion is that it is a personal choice. I do not think it is right, but I also do not think that it is wrong. I do think that it is wrong to use abortion as a method of birth control though. I respect all of the answers that have been given to me and thank you all for taking the time to voice your opinion.

I sit on the fence where it comes to abortion, I think it all has a place and time in this world if there is something wrong with the fetus or it is a case of rape or incence yes I beleive we have the right to have a choice.
When woman use it as a case of contraceptive then I have huge problems with it as it is not there to be used as that , with the invention of condoms pills and the likes there is no reason there should be unplanned pregnancy, babies are born into this world everyday into poverty but they are born into this world with love which is something that no matter how much money or social standing you have can not buy.
I think if the anti aborstionist, are so self rightous in their thoughts where are they when thousands are startving kids on the street not having enough foster homes or safe shelters for these kids ot go to when they need it the most,
But most importantly who gave them the power to sit in JUDGEMENT ON OTHERS!
the last time I looked that was god's job alone. Not one I would wish upon myself.

Your quotes after your question certainly "tip" in favor of abortion. So you won't like my take on it.
We have no right to abort a child. We are not God. I believe that to make the decision to abort a pregnancy is to make a decision that we are not in a position to make. Only God knows -- and we don't know His plan for that life.
To make it a simplistic thing and say that children born in to bad circumstances should all be aborted is a stretch that we just cannot make. It isn't just irresponsible. It is murder.
No one knows -- that the child will die in war. It is at least possible that that child would grow up to be the world's next great peacemaker.
No one knows -- that an unwanted baby will live an unhappy existance that costs society more money. It is at least possible that the unwanted child, carried full-term and then given up for adoption might be placed in a loving, happy family who wanted him or her very much -- even see the child as a miracle.
THAT ISN'T NOISY THEATRICS.
This is life we are talking about.
My wife was 17 -- I was 18 -- when she became pregnant with our son. We were poor. I had no job. She was still in high school. I could give you another thousand reasons why we could have rationalized abortion.
We got married. We had our son. He's 32 now. He is a productive member of society and we love him so much. He has brought us so much joy.
No one knows how life is going to unfold and (I believe) no one has the right to make that decision based upon their own preconceptions about what the unborn child will or will not live through in their life.
We are not God.
We want to be God. We want to be able to make those kinds of decisions for ourselves -- and even for others. We want to overlay our own thoughts without regard to the unborn child. That is sin.
Wanting to be God is sin.
It is wrong.
No one has the right.

You do have a good point about the children that are not being taken care of now. However that does not give us the right to take away the life of the unborn. God put us each here for a reason. That reason isn't always clear and it is quite painful to see the torture and abuse of any child. Although I cry for the children on the news and in my own community I have to trust that God has a purpose for each life he creates and I will never agree with any destruction of any life for any reason whether by abortion or war. He did not give me that power and I'm pretty confident that he didn't give it to anyone else either.

There's no such thing as an unwanted infant in America. Forty couples are waiting for every single baby who comes up for adoption. I know many pro-life families who have adopted children, including older children, sibling groups, children from Africa, and children with Down syndrome. However, even if babies were unwanted, that would not be justification for killing them. Should we also kill homeless people, because they are "unwanted?"
I am pro-life without exception, and I do NOT support Bush or the war in Iraq.

A woman owns her body and has the right to choose. The government's long arm of the law has no business reaching in and putting up a stop sign at the cervix.
If, however, the fetus could survive outside the womb (currently defined to be the third trimester), then the goverment's interest in protecting the unborn trumps all -- including cases of rape or incest -- unless the mother's life is in danger.

Everyone should have the right to decide. I think that some women abuse the right and use abortion in place of birth control, but I also believe that there are always extenuating circumstances that abortion is the right choice. In cases of incest victims becoming pregnant, tubal pregnancies, etc.
You'd be surprised how many anti-abortion people change their stance on abortion when their 14 year daughter comes home pregnant!!

The people you've quoted never polled myself nor any other pro-lifers that I know about how we are helping children. I am pro-life for a lot of reasons. First, I have been in the position of being a teenager with an unplanned pregnancy. I did not want to be pregnant but I did want my daughter! Her father and I made a lot of sacrifices and got married to raise her. She is now a beautiful 23 year old woman, and you know what she wants to do with her life? She is studying to become a child advocate so she can help children who are abused and neglected and need a better family. (and yes, my daughter is against abortion.) I could have had an abortion but would have been punishing my baby for the mistake of her father and I.
Second, I have 34 college units in child development. As soon as I learned how early various systems are developing early on in the fetus, I knew I could NEVER have an abortion.
Third, I have friends who had abortions and wish they didn't. Their lives will never be the same without that baby. I know how they feel because I had a miscarriage several years ago. It was a horrific experience as I was awake for the D & C and it seemed so disrespectful that my baby was sucked into a vacuum - I had nothing to bury and was not even permitted to have one of the ultrasound pics. to remember my son by. I could only imagine how awful it must be to go through the same thing with a live pregnancy! After my miscarriage though I got online and found webpages for women who lost their babies. There were as many women grieving their abortions as those who had miscarriages.
Fourth, I met a woman who survived an attempted late term chemical abortion. She is so happy that she lived! (Incidently, I am also glad to be alive, my parents were not expecting to have a child so soon and I was premature. They didn't really know what to do with me and were far from perfect parents but I am grateful to them for giving me live.)
Fifth, many couples would be happy to raise those so-called unwanted babies. My cousin and her husband have adopted one such little girl and I know many other people who have adopted children from girls who had unplanned pregnancies. One of my cousins became pregnant when she was 14 but put her baby up for an open adoption rather than have an abortion.
As for the quotes, people against abortion help improve the lives of children every day. Just look at all that Mother Theresa did to care for the poor of India! As for myself, I donate to causes when I can. Every church that I have been involved with donates money to help causes around the world.
I personally worked at a group home for abused and neglected kids. I did my best to give those kids all the love I could while I was with those children. One of my best girlfriends worked there for 6 years and then went on to care for kids of teenage moms. Eventually she became a social worker for the department of children's services.
Quite frankly, most children who become abused or neglected were initially wanted!
If medicine ever develops a process to remove an embryo from one woman and implant it into another, I will be first in line to volunteer my womb to save babies in this fashion. That way women wouldn't have to go thru a pregnancy if they want to and we women who want to help children could bare them.
Finally, there are so many forms of birth control available now that it is easier to prevent a pregnancy than it is to have an abortion. It is easier to go to Planned Parenthood to get a perscription for the "morning after" pill (and no, I do not think that is abortion since no fertilized egg has implanted yet,) than it is to have to go there for an abortion!

I'm a born & raised democrat, just to begin with. My view on abortion...I don't completely agree with it. However, I don't believe that it should be made illegal. I think the government has no business telling a woman what she can or cannot do with her body. Besides, if it is made illegal, women will just find other ways of terminating their pregnancy...including going to unsanitary places to have illegal abortions. I think it should be the womans choice. I can see why women who have been raped or molested would consider such actions. However, I don't think it should be taken lightly and used as a form of birth control.

I hate abortion I mean it's like killing a child that hasn't had a chance to live, and enjoy all the best times
people always fight that well so and so was raped, that's different
no it's not.... one of my best friends was raped, and had twins, the children were fine, she was happy (when they weren't crying) and she was only 14 at the time, she had great friends to support her, and even though I wasn't there she knew she had my support.
Just think about it this way
would you kill your child?

Speaking for myself, I could never have an abortion. I think it's wrong. BUT. I do believe in choice for every woman out there. WAIT, I just lied. I don't believe that women should use abortion as birth control..women who do, I believe should be "fixed"
