They typically come from large families where they have to be loud to be heard.

the same reason the German's and Russians and Africans and Eskimos and every human race, creed and culture has loud people. because they are just loud people and love to get excited about life. there are some Italians that are very quiet and have very little to say. others are average in their expression and then there are the ones that let everyone know they are on this wonderful diverse world of ours that you are a part of.

although not the case with all italians, not only with italians, and based solely on my own personal experience, i believe many italian families are large and they spend lots of good family time together. when you get large groups of happy people gathered in one place, they tend to talk louder so they can be heard over the other people in the room. loud talking becomes a habit that carries over into their quieter daily life. or it could be something else entirely, in which case i'm sure some italian person or someone who surely knows more than i do will correct me in a most emphatic, but hopefully not mean, manner.

(sheesh, i shouldn't have to add all the disclaimers but don't want to be attacked by all the people who will say i'm racist for stereotyping italians. i don't know when i turned into such a sissy but i'm not taking any chances here.) *rolls eyes*

HEY! we aren't loud, we are vocal. And that is a prejudice thing to say. One group of people don't ALL act the exact same.

Maybe they're hard of hearing. Just kidding. By their nature they're very expressive. And if they came from a large family they learned to raise their voices as kids so they could be heard.

its the hair in their ears. there is too much of it in there so they have to speak loud so they can hear what they are saying too.
