How did you react to the news about there being too much lead in some childrens lunchboxes all over the U.S.? I freaked out about it, because my youngest son has packed his lunch almost every single day for the past 3 years! I mean, you do what you can to protect your kids and then find out their lunchboxes could harm them! Now there are new ones out there with tags or stickers saying they are lead free, thank goodness. We got 2 of those just to be on the safe side!
For those of you who haven't heard about this, please check into it. No one wants their child to end up with lead poisoning!

I know they make plastic ones and metal ones, but the local news AND a legitimate article I read both said they have not been tested and could have too much lead in them, too. I would rather be safe than sorry!

I had no idea. I thought lunch boxes were made out of safe plastic. Reminds me when crayons had lead in them a few years back. I am sure your son is safe, but you can always get a blood test to be sure. All of my kids have been tested because we live in an older house. Thanks for the information.

Bunch of namby pamby fear mongers trying to push some product.
They don't even make metal lunchboxes anymore. They sure arent going to be in plastic ones. Lead no mater what isnt going to get into the food. Im sure you wrap the sandwich or whatever in a plastic bag. He'd have to be licking a box with lead in it to have problems.
IF you are that worry take him to the doctor and get a lead test.
Personally Id find out where this story came from . Sounds like urban legend. Probably made up reason about why they don't have metal lunchboxes anymore.

I would totally freak out! Lead as an additive has been banned in the USA since the mid 70's, when I was in school. But that doesn't stop other countries from using it. I think a fool-proof way of getting around this would be to use either a plastic lunch box, or one of those insulated soft-side ones. There are alot of them on the market & I'm sure there are ones geared to the young ones.

Like someone suggested there are plastic lunch boxes as well as paper brown bags..
Also, if your are concerned about lunch boxes..Do know what you are cooking your food in? Teflon cookware is not safe at all. Especially cookware that has aluminum. Which cause long term health problems and most countries have banded Teflon and cookware with aluminum in them, including 3rd world countries. The US is the only country that doesn't have these laws to band such materials...

I have a son in 2nd grade. He doesn't take his lunch all the time -just on the days he does not like the lunch that is served and i have not heard anything about it. I will have to get him one with the tag-he was going to use his old one from last year.

Most lunchboxes are made with plastic. It's all about being a safe parent to begin with. When in doubt, don't use it.

For me, it was alarming at first and yes I checked my son's lunch box
but if you think about it, nothing is really good for you anymore. every day scientists come up with something we shouldnt be doing or something we shouldnt be eating, but if you look at past generations... they were just fine doing all these things that we are no longer safe to do and they are all fine. I think that sometimes the news stations just need something to report, something to scare us a little more.
