After you purchased the DV cable it requires your computer to handle the DV cable(firewire). The firewire cable is either four pin or six pin. Before you invest anymore money into this, better check and make sure your computer can handle the video compression and the results are acceptable to your project.

If you are just archiving your tapes, just purchase a DVD recorder with firewire option and save straight to DVD discs. The only con is this method only allows very limited editing, but the results are acceptable if you are sharing video with family and friends.

I expect your cable is a firewire cable it should have a big end (slightly bigger than usb) and a small end small and bent on the insides of one side. your computer may not have the firewire inputs , they are usually positioned at the front or at the back in the usb ports , if you have looked and cant find any you may have to get a ieee pci card .

good news: yeah and it should come in the form of a usb cable that was included when you bought it. if not, then, yeah you need to buy that cable. thats about it. not a lot of wiggle room here. hey by the way what camera did you get?
