One any dog can turn no one breed is any more likely. Pit bulls jaws are no different than any other dog they do not lock. Pits are strong and it is much harder to force them to open thier jaws. There is over 6 million pits in this counrty, some think there are more pits then any other breed. With that many if half of them trun on thier owners think how many pit attacks there would be every day. If you want to own a pit get a real one not some mix that you have no idea what thier true nature are. Pits were not frist bred for fight. They were bred for protecting the family of framers and thier families, they were known as the nanny dog for thier love of childern. They are used for police dogs, serch and rescue, detection dogs and service dogs. What worst is most people can't tell a pit from other large headed breeds. See if you can find one.

To those who say pits can turn at a drop of a hat. My neice's lab she raised from a puppy was loved and never mistreated trun for no reason and attacked my grand nephew. He almost lost his eye, this is the thrid lab in the pass two months that as done this dose that mean Las Vegas should outlaw labs. No, this can happen with any breed. Last year a 6lbpomerarian killed a 6 week old baby and Paris Hilton is being sued becasue tinkerbell bite a cop.

The problem is a lot of irresponsible breeding and irresponsible owners. Any breed can become aggressive - a good breeder will screen for aggression in puppies and parents before breeding or selling, but a lot of people breed dogs in their backyards. That is a huge reason why we have so many problems with dog aggression. A lot of owners also don't take care of their dogs - they either treat them like children or lock them up and ignore them. A dog that is not excercised and has no training is a dangerous dog regardless of breed!

Preach on!!!
I love to hear people talk about he good nature of an gorgoeus breed and did most people know that the news these days call all dogs that bite people even if it is pit or a lab.. The pit these days have the bad rap just like in the veitnam time the shepherds were the old pit always cased down upon, and after that the doberman. When will the morons of society wake up and realize its not the dog it the drug addicted F*** heads that breed and beat these dogs to be fighters..In the 1800s when they started making this breed any dog that bite a person was put to death they what no mean dogs, in fact by nature unless bred into a pit, they make horrible gaurd dogs, they'd rather kiss a burgler, then bite him, a person should be more afraid of the ugly mop headed dogs then a pit. Punish the deed not the breed!!!!

I found the American Pit Bull Terrier.
Pit bulls can be great dogs. But the ones that aren't, do not have good, repuatable breeders, bad owners, and no socialization or behavior training.
I have me many great pits, and many bad ones. If these dogs fall into the wrong hands, they can be bad dogs. But they do not start out that way.
I love pits and would love to own one. Of course I would get one from a repuatable breeder, who breeds their dogs for temperment and health first.
If people had to have licenses to breed, there would not be so many problems. But this will never happen. Too bad.
Edit: Also, when these dogs were used as fighters, they still did not bite people. They were washed by the other dogs owner to make sure no poisons were on the dog. Also, the dogs were pulled apart by humans so they didn't get too beat up. If a dog bit a human that would be dangerous. So they were bred and trained to be aggresive towards other dog, NOT humans.
These days, people don't care to train the dogs. People want an agressive dog as a gaurd dog. When in fact the dog does not have to be aggressive, just loyal. If you treat your dog right, it will know when and who to attack. And it will never be the owner.

For the same reason that people believe all the myths about wolf crossbreeds.
MEDIA HYPE
When do you hear about the wolf who saves the two year old baby? When do you hear about the wolf who never bit anyone but the rapist who broke into the house? Never. It is always a German Shephard or Collie. If it was a wolf or pitt, it wouldn't be put in the paper or on the tv, cause it wouldn't be "news".
For sure, wolves require slightly different treatment than the average dog, but if a loving owner does their research, even the terrifing wolf cross can be a good pet. I know, I have two of them, and they have never bitten anyone. They are extremely loyal and loving. All they need is a little understanding from a responsible knowledgeble owner, just like any other dog.

Your defense of the pitbull is admirable, however, many towns now literally outlaw the breed. These laws are not passed based on myths - they are passed based on facts and to help secure the safety of the citizens. I agree that "any dog can turn" and further, I believe that the disposition of any dog has a lot to do with their owner's treatment and training - but pitbulls, unfortunately, have earned their reputation of all too many vicious attacks on other dogs, children and/or their owners without apparent provocation - often resulting in serious injuries or death.

You are 100% correct. People believe what they hear, it's a common factor in today's society for some unknown reason. My aunt has a pit bull mix that we found when he was no more that three months old (he was thrown out of a Jeep window). He is the best darn dog ever. He has never (in five years) attacked anyone and has never been anything but loving & friendly to anyone who approaches him.

Your statement that pits were not originally bred to fight is incorrect ... they were. Unfortunately, there is a strong market for badass dogs, and as long as there is; bad breeders will procreate mean vicious dogs to make a quick buck. This is why pits have a bad rep, because for every properly bred, well behaved pitbull out there, there are three or four badass pits living nearby.

I have been the fortunate owner of two pit bull mixes. I do not know where these beliefs come from. We had a pit/german shephard mix, and currently have a pit/labrador mix.
The shephard was a great dog and ended up being one of the smartest we ever owned.
The lab is 70 pounds of sweetness and love. Her feeling are easily hurt, and she is just a big goof. We also own two chihuahuas, and she lays with them, plays with them, and is one of the most gentle souls I have ever known, human or dog.
Most of it come from upbringing and treatment. Treat them kindly and give them attention, and it will pay off for you in spades.

i could tell 3 & 7 were pitts, but i see what u mean. theres this pitt bull in my neighborhood that keeps getting reported to animal controll cause this one paranoyed mother of some toddlers is a freak. the dog can be a little testy at times, but any dog that has spent the first part of her life on the street probably wouldn't be too trusting. just the other day i saw a little kid petting a pitt & i could tell how friendly the dog is! the sad thing is that the reason people get freaked out is cause some sick, sick b@stards train them to be. don't u just want to throw those people in a meat processor...
