My boyfriend just replaced the spark plugs, air filter and changed the oil on my 2000 Beetle and drove it about 40 miles. Just as he got home, the check engine light came on and the car is misfiring...any ideas on what to check? Do we need to have the diagnostic computer to do anything on this car??

I also suspect it's either the wrong plugs or you need new wires, too.

It sounds like a spark plug lead is not properly connected, however if after checking the spark plugs making sure they are the correct plugs and are firmly connected and it still has problems you should take it to a mechanic.

There is a possibility he could have pulled on a lead to hard and did some damage. Be very patient with him though. He was helping you ;)
