If you go out with him it's going to bring up all the old feelings and you'll be in a bad place. You can never be sure of what his intentions are. I think that it is better to leave your ex in the past and move forward with your life.

Search your heart and soul. If you still love him, his inviting you out may be the beginning of a possible reconciliation with you and surely, you are headed towards a very exciting date with him. If you don't love him anymore,. you may not accept his invitation gracefully. But if you don't know if you still love him. you may go out with him with the hope that your dating him will give you the chance to know the answer.
For whatever reason you had that made you separate ways, his asking you out again may be a sign that he is still interested in you. May be, during those times that you broke off with each other, he found the time to analyze what went wrong along the way and now, he wants to go back to your arms once more to pick up the pieces and see if your relationship will work this time. If you still love him, why not give him the chance to do or say what is in his heart tonight? I'm sure that if ever he is wanting to have a reconciliation with you and you do not accept his invitation, he will be turned off believing that your rejecting his offer is a sign that you are no longer interested in him.
You may now decide for yourself depending on how you feel for that guy these days. But no matter what your decision will be, make sure that you will never ever regret it all your life. Good luck.

If he's an ex, there's probably a good reason why; think about why you broke up, and whether that situation has changed at all. If there's no new information since the breakup, there's no reason to think that it will turn out any better this time around. I'd say skip it, unless you have a really good reason to think things are different now than they were before.

If your comfortable with it then say yes. If not, then say no! If your not sure, then tell him that you have something to do but may be able to see him for a moment pending some family plans, and when you see him and decide you want to go out then you can go out. If you decide on the spot that you don't feel like it, then talk for a short while, then just tell him that you are meeting your family.
It is all about down playing his expectations without really saying no, but let him keep his pride.

Remember why he's your ex in the first place, then ask yourself the question again.
