I'm not Catholic, but I found a medalion of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, and I was wondering who/what she is the patron saint of? How/what is she supposed to protect? I did make alot of $ today, and I wasn't in trouble when I thought I was. Did she save me?

What has that got to do with a MT. named Carmel? Was she born there? Sorry, not trying to sound stupid...

Our Lady of Mount Carmel is one of the many names given to the Holy Mother of Jesus: Mary. In ancient Old Testament times, there was a band of monks who lived in caves on Mount Carmel, they were contemplative and were devoted to the Mother of the Savior hundreds of years before the birth of Jesus. Hence the name: Our Lady of Mount Carmel. The Carmelite religious still exsist in various forms even today. Blessed Pope John Paul 2 is a Carmelite religious, as are many famous saints in church history, including St. John of the Cross, and doctors of the church: St. Teresa of Avila and St. Therese Lisieux (the little flower). Carmelites usually can be identified today easily by the fact that they wear a physical habit known as the brown scapular (it resembles a tea bag worn around the neck!). The original scapular was given to St. Simon Stock by the Blessed Virgin Mary when she appeared to him in Middle ages. The scapular was given and is worn as a sign of religious devotion to Mary and Jesus, wearing it is like wearing a constant prayer to God. Mary is the mother of all mankind and has a special love for those in most trouble and in need of help. As Mary was the humble vehicle God used to bring Jesus into the world, Mary always points to and leads us back to Her Divine Son. Mary may truly be called the Stairway of Heaven. By her God descended from heaven to the world so that by her we might ascend from earth to heaven. Finding a religious medal honoring the memory of Mary is a special gift to you from God. I would assume the medal you found is a Scapular medal. Embrace it and thank God for giving it to you. Ask Mary for her special help and protection, she will never fail and will always help you come closer to Jesus if you only call upon her.

The Virgin Mary

She is Jesus' mother, Mother of the Church, therefore she is all Christians' mother spiritually.

P.S. OK...Mount Carmel is in NE Isreal. Carmel is actually derived from two ancient word meaning "Garden of God" which is where we get the term "Enclosed Garden of the Immaculate Heart" A Religious Order was also founded and operates there.
Mother Mary watches over them, as she does us all.

Our Lady of Mt. Carmel is Mary, the mother of Jesus. As she is our mother by the words of Jesus, then she is also there to protect us. It is quite possible that she was watching over you!

She is the Blessed Mother of Jesus Christ. If you want salvation, you will have to go to her son. I hope sincerely that is an option in your life. God usually drops hints like these into our lives. It is up to you whether to follow these things up.
