Is it just me, or do some Christians seem to be so diluted with their book that they don't truly listen to their spirit?

They rely on a book to tell them how they -should- feel and how they -should- act instead of listening to what their spirit says. They don't dare think outside the box, or in this case, out side the rectangle to find their own answers. For instance: I don't believe that someone will go to hell because they don't believe in Jesus or God. That's ridiculous because that means 80% of the world is going to hell. I also don't believe in the Adam & Eve story. However, I believe that Deity created evolution.

Please explain this to me. And for the love of God, if you say "Because the Bible is the truth", you're just admitting that you can't think outside your rectangle.

It's kind of akin to a modern biologist looking to the writings of the ancient Greeks for a clue as to the nature of the sun. It's just not good information - they weren't dumb back then, they just didn't have the technological or physical means to know such things. However, the bible does have some good suggestions as far as morality goes - you don't have to be a genius to figure out right and wrong in any age - but as you point out, it's full of a lot of very *unlikely* information that was merely a result of the times in which it was written. Why has religion not evolved in the way that economics, mathematics, biology, astronomy, and everything else has? Because it's sacred, and untouchable. A dangerous idea, indeed.

It's far worse than relying on a book. If Christians actually followed the teachings in the Gospel, you would probably have a much higher opinion of the religion. The problem is they rely on men to interpret what other men have interpreted. This mentality compounded by the centuries produces groups that train people to turn away from their spirit.

I admit, I would think just a little bit more about your question if you used "their" and "deluded" (diluted is a different word entirely).

That said, I like your reasoning, particularly about how people can't think outside their blessed bible for ideas. I apply this to homosexuality, myself. Once asked a question here, asking whether people could just forget about what *God* or *the bible* said and think about whether *they* truly believed that homosexuality was wrong. All I got were a bunch of friggin' bible-quotes, the same garbage, over and over and over again. Nobody seemed to get the question.

Good luck with any sensible answers...but I'm guessing you might get more quotes than you'd like...

If a deity created evolution, it didn't need much of an effort, eh?

For you to deny the possibility that the Bible is the truth puts you in the another box that you can't "think" out of, either.

I would rather remain in the safety net of God's love than the quicksand of intellectualism.

Oh, I see, you have created your own belief system, called "Meism". It's all about me. I think what I want, believe what I want, and everything will be okay. Don't bother me with truth, don't have time for it, after all, it is all about me. Sorry, God is truth, God created truth, and that truth is contained in the Bible. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except by Me." I guess Jesus wasn't thinking outside the box, was He?

Actually in that Book we are instructed to talk to God and to listen to Him as well. Christianity is about faith in Christ and about emulating him. How did He live? We walked and talked with the Father constantly. So should we. I don't need to turn to a book for answers. I turn to God.
