You just can't let a kid get off this stuff himself or you could have a 10yr old still sucking a bottle for crying out loud, kids have to be weaned that's what weaned means!!try getting them a subscription to parents magazine,it will have a lot of advice about when and how to wean kids off diapers and everything else.It really isn't healthy to let a kid have a bottle at 3 or a binky,it can cause speech problems and tooth deformity not to mention it is much harder to wean a older child than a younger one.I have 3 kids and weaned them all at different times, the first I waited until he was 3 to potty train,it was a horrible experience!!My second,I weaned her at 2.My last,I had him off the bottle at 6 months and he never used a binky, and had him potty trained before he was 2,it was so much easier and I wasn't spending all my extra money on diapers and bottles because my kid had teeth and was biting the nipples off the bottles. You could bring it up next time you see them changing the kids diaper, say something like "When are you really supposed to potty train a child, anyway?"like you want to know.If you don't feel comfortable then let them decide,at least you have the common sense enough to know when it's right when you have kids(if you don't have them already)It is up to them,I'm sure they do know this needs to be done, they just aren't doing it.

He should have been weaned off the bottle by a year old, binky should have been gone when he started talking, and diapers some kids take longer to learn but your brother should have started around 18 months to 2 years on potty training.
Tell them that it is time for the "baby" to GROW UP, he WAY PAST all the things that should have been done and is now WAY BEHIND!
Have them take the bottles and binkies and have a "big boy party" and make a BIG DEAL over throwing the bottles and binkies AWAY in the TRASH and take them to the DUMPSTER or take them OUTSIDE. No more after this! DON'T GIVE IN! They need to be the GROWN UPS and stop letting this child run their lives.
Show him the target game, throw a cherrio in the potty and tell him to aim at the cherrio. As for the potty they just need to get one and get a book and get to training NOW, no preschool or kindergarden school will take him with diapers on!
They need to get on the ball before their son is left any farther behind!!!

3 years old, you're kidding right? What is the matter with your brother....or his wife? What is the holdup? Don't they care enough about their children to take the time to get them off of the bottle? Do they not realize that it will cause baby bottle tooth decay? I have done alot of research and toddlers should be bottle broke by the age of 2, otherwise it starts effecting their mouth structure and the teeth themselves. As for the binky....that should be long gone....it is for babies....it should have been gone by the age of 1 year old at the latest. It causes the mouth structure to change and also is bad for their teeth...also....it WILL hinder their speech. Let me guess, your brother's son is not able to talk as well as other 3 year olds his age? As for the potty training...he should be doing this now...it should have been started earlier...at least for most children, but every child is different....but he will need to start getting him to go in the potty or toilet soon..it only gets harder from here. Tell your brother to grow up and stop letting his kids do anything that they want...he is the parent, and his child doesn't know any better...but your brother does.

Perhaps you should mind your own business. He isn't setting any records and parents are often ofended and rightfully so when others tell them how to parent or that they are parenting incorrectly. Many kids at 3 and 4 still use a binky. Many still wear diapers ..... somewhere between 3 and 4 it usually stops but that is not your decision. Some kids still use a bottle. They usually all turn out fine. I dont know if you have kids or not but if you do I am sure they may have suggestions for you and if you dont then just wait. Things are not always as easy as they looked when it finally happens to you.

OK I'm in agreement it isn't your business, but you might say he is getting a little big for the bottle. My girl was off the bottle at a year, potty trained at 18 months, and wasn't interested in a Binky. But she was ready. I just pointed out the potty to her and told her anytime she used it she got a sticker. She had no need after that for diapers. She couldn't wear pull ups though they would brake her out. She liked being a big girl. She is 3 1/2 now and is doing fine.

Little momma 05 has the right idea - have the Big Boy party, where all the baby stuff gets ditched and replaced with new, flashy, important, cool Big Boy stuff!
Chuck the nappies, buy him six pairs of Brand New Undies with Superman on them and Other Cool Superheroes!
Ditch the bottle and buy him a New, Cool, Excellent Drinking Cup with (insert superhero here) on it.
I DON'T KNOW what a binky is but by the sounds of it it is something a three year old should not have.
I don't think you should let him take his time. We don't let kids decide what movies are suitable or when to go to bed, because they can't make those decisions. Same with this stuff. Time to grow up! Have the party, buy all the new stuff and the kid won't look back. He will LOVE having all this new big-boy stuff and his self-confidence will increase hugely.

Eventually he's gonna have to loose the diapers and bottles because well he won't be excepted into school if he's not potty trained and well after 1 day of being teased about the bottle and Binky he will break himself.
But tell your brother that if they want to put him in Pre-K or even if they want him to attend public school when he is old enough for Kindergarten that he has to be potty trained!
Or volunteer to keep him for a weekend and break him yourself. Take him shopping for big boy underwear and tell him that at your house he needs to use the big potty and tell him that the bottle is yucky a sippey cup is much more fun and bribe him!! Say if you use the big boy potty and drink from the sippey cup I'll take you to the park.

Are they even trying? The bottle needs to go first should have been gone between 1and 2.-bad teeth- Being off the bottle will make potty training a little easier, won't constantly have a bottle in his mouth. He will also be able to go to preschool. As for the binky just lose it one day he'll be fine.

No worries. My son is 4 and still on the bottle, binky and wears diapers. They will come off it one day, so don't worry.

my son is the same age...
we have a deal that when he is 4, we let go of the bottle and pass it on to his youngr bro. when i gave birth, our deal was bottle only when he is about to sleep (2x, nap & night) so he gets is am and mid-pm milk in the glass. then when he turns 4, all in the glass already.
we dont have a binky (tho i have for my 2nd son who is only 7 mos)
my son doesnt wear diapers at home anymore except when he's asleep but very rarely poops if hes not in one. when we go out, hes still mostly in diapers - 1st, when he gets really poopie, we got a prob, 2nd, he still cant hold for long periods, so if the bathroom is far away, we got a prob, and 3rd, he still has a problem directing his pee, we're working on this
