I didn't know that dvd players could be virused. Something is wrong with your dvd player. If it is still on warranty contact the manufacturer. If not, call the dealer you bought it from. Just had a dumb thought. Are the store bought dvds going in the right way up. Maybe your bootleg source is using the flip side of the disc. If the dealer and manufacturer can't help then try putting the store bought discs in the other way up.

I'm sure the laser is getting weak. What usually happens is the plastic lens that is controlled by tiny stepper motors to focus the laser on the disk gets warped slightly. So the first thing you will notice is the newer disks with the higher density, multilayer formats won't work, while the simple single layer (home burned) will still be able to focus and play. Unfortunately the newer DVDs have made the laser, lens, motors, etc a module (parts are not available separately) and the replacement cost usually exceeds replacement costs.

Sounds like me trouble then it is worth, DVD players are very cheap, trash the one you have and go get a new one.
